St. Nicks Alliance (SNA) is a nonprofit, nonsectarian community-based organization founded in 1975 with the mission to transform lives of low- and moderate-income people through employment, education, housing, and health care. We do this by delivering impactful services with measurable outcomes to children, youth, adults, and the elderly. As a civic anchor, we carry out this mission within the context of building a sustainable community for all people through the arts, environmental advocacy, and urban planning. 


Established in 1994, St Nicks Alliance’s Youth and Education department strives to transform the lives of more than 6,000 North Brooklyn youth, ages 2-24, each year. Through a wide-range of programs, youth are empowered to successfully advance through the stages of education and into young adulthood with the core competencies to thrive, both emotionally and financially. In partnership with schools, families and community, St.Nicks Alliance’s holistic approach to transformation combines youth development, academic enrichment, health and wellness, arts learning and post-secondary readiness. 


Williamsburg Beacon and Compass High are located at Grand Street Campus in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  They are key components of St. Nicks Alliance’s comprehensive services for at-risk youth on this large campus serving three schools.  The Assistant Director, Williamsburg Beacon and Compass High has primary responsibility for the afterschool component, serving approximately 250 students, and data management for both contracts.  The Assistant Director works closely with the Director and colleagues providing Career Readiness and Socio-Emotional support during the school day and extended day to design afterschool offerings that meet the interests and needs of students.  They are responsible for planning, staffing and implementing afterschool.  Assistant Director also oversees funder and internal data management systems, and works in close collaboration with the Director and colleagues to ensure all contract deliverables are met for Williamsburg Beacon and Compass High along with holiday programs and summer camp.


Key Responsibilities:

 

Program Oversight and Staff Supervision

  • Develop, plan and implement afterschool programs, summer camp, and holidays whether it’s  remote and in-person, that reflect the interests and needs of high school students at Grand Street campus.  
  • Align carefully with services offered during the school day through SNA’s Career GPS Center at Grand Street Campus. 
  • Align afterschool with department-wide strategies to graduate high school with the academic achievement, socio-emotional skills and career planning needed for post-secondary success. 
  • Oversee permits, space allocation, and afterschool meals for afterschool programming
  • Hire and supervise highly competent staff to oversee afterschool programming
  • Help train and provide ongoing observations, coaching and feedback to staff, including classroom management strategies that align with day school culture such as the responsive classroom approach
  • Supervise the running program just as well as staff in absence of Director 
  • Ensuring Data is being recorded and DYCD deliverables are being met.
  • Compliance with DYCD and DOH requirements

 

Partnership / Relationship Development

  • Work with SNA colleagues and school personnel to develop partnerships and maintain communication with school leadership and staff to support the effective integration of in-school and after-school goals.
  • Build strong relationships with parents and other community resources in order to enrich the after school experiences for students and their families

 

Contract Compliance and Data Management

  • Demonstrate clear understanding of Beacon and Compass high deliverables, SNA strategies for achieving these deliverables, and data tracking these deliverables
  • Supervise DYCD online system and administrative mandates to ensure 100% compliance of required deliverables.
  • Track and report on enrollment, attendance and data weekly to the Director
  • Attend DYCD Trainings and Meetings
  • Ensuring SACC and DYCD Binders are up to date and in compliance with DOH and DYCD requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Must have a strong understanding of strengths-based youth development, the developmental needs of at-risk youth, and cultural competence.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to design afterschool programs for high school students
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must understand DYCD contracts, preferably Beacon and Compass High, and DYCD Connect
  • Must be results-driven with ability to prioritize and be proactive in achieving goals
  • Must be computer literate with Microsoft Windows, MS Word, and MS Excel.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) is a plus.


Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred in a related social science field
