Background/Position Summary:

The American Technion Society supports visionary education and world-changing impact through the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. Based in New York City, we represent thousands of US donors, alumni and stakeholders who invest in the Technion’s growth and innovation to advance critical research and technologies that serve the State of Israel and the global good. Over more than 75 years, our nationwide supporter network has funded new Technion scholarships, research, labs and facilities that have helped deliver world-changing contributions and extend Technion education to campuses on three continents.


The part time HR Manager will support our 75-person organization by helping to administer our benefits and bi-weekly exempt and non-exempt multi-state payroll and ensure our documentation and systems are compliant with relevant laws. Additional responsibilities will encompass support on a variety of projects such as: rolling out ADP Workforce Now modules, implementing an online performance management system, introducing health and wellness initiatives, developing an employee engagement survey, and making updates to our employee policies. This is an ideal position for a motivated self-starter who wants to be part of an employee centric culture. The HR Manager will engage with all staff across our organization on a wide variety of HR responsibilities and special projects.


Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

·      Assist HR Director with research and facilitate implementation of new or enhanced HR initiatives and benefit programs, striving to make these programs competitive in the local market and attractive to our staff.

·      Recommend new approaches and policies/procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of the HR department and services provided to all staff in order to attract, engage and retain top talent.

·      Develop relationships with vendors and respond to inquiries from employees regarding payroll, time off and all benefits (medical, dental, insurance, retirement, flexible spending, transit chek, etc.).

·      Support the safekeeping and maintenance of all confidential payroll and HR related documentation.

·      Help to coordinate new hire and termination processes in coordination with Organizational Development staff.

·      Performs other related duties as assigned.



·      Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience and knowledge of HR best practices.

·      Two to four years of HR generalist experience required, preferably in a not for profit organization.

·      SHRM CP or similar certification is preferred.

·      Experience with ADP Workforce Now is preferred.

·      Intermediate experience in Microsoft Word (mail merging) & Excel (formulas).

·      Sound judgment and high personal standards regarding confidentiality.

·      Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff across the organization.

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·      Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

·      Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·      Able to work in deadline driven role with a well-developed sense of urgency.

·      Commitment to the mission of ATS.


Schedule & Compensation:

This is a non-exempt position, working 15-20 hours per week with flexible days and times. The salary range is $30.00 - $35.00 hourly, depending upon prior relevant experience.
