Greenwood Friends School is seeking a full-time experienced early childhood educator to collaborate in a two-person team in the Early Childhood Center for 3-, 4-, and 5-year olds to begin August 2018. Located in idyllic rural Pennsylvania amid rolling hills and farms, Greenwood offers pre-K through 8th education in a tight-knit community centered on Quaker values of simplicity, peace, integrity, equality, and stewardship.
Our progressive education aims to develop the whole person by valuing each individual’s capacity to think critically, creatively, and compassionately. Education is cultivated in multi-age classrooms, including a leading edge Early Childhood Center that combines pre-K and K ages. Our highly innovative teachers have developed a number of unique educational programs, including a food forest classroom, kitchen science classes, Spanish instruction in all grades, and thematic programming such as Walk in the Woods. The school has seen a 31% enrollment increase over last year with nearly 90% retention, and will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2018. Greenwood is under the care of Millville Monthly Meeting and the Upper Susquehanna Quarterly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends.
The early childhood educator must be an inspirational teacher passionate about integrating play-based learning with developmentally appropriate academic and social / emotional growth. The ideal candidate will also co-lead our “Wednesday in the Woods” forest school program, a hands-on, student centered immersive nature based program that helps our youngest students develop a love of learning.
The Greenwood Early Childhood Center is devoted to ensuring that the transition from home to school for our earliest learners is honored as sacred and handled with care and love. The successful candidate must also be able to communicate effectively with parents, pursue professional development opportunities to further their understanding of best and most innovative practices in early childhood education and work collaboratively with other teachers and staff. Candidates in possession of an advanced education degree are preferred and teaching experience is essential. A willingness to embrace Quaker values and practice Quaker decision-making are essential.
