The Frank Harr Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization serving the LGBTQIA community while educating the community at large on LGBTQIA issues and specific needs.

Position Summary:  The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration and programs of the Frank Harr Foundation [FHF], in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.  Other key duties include community outreach, fundraising, and marketing. Program areas include but are not limited to SAGE Wilmington of the Cape Fear Coast, Wilmington Pride Youth Group, support groups, and Safe Zone Training.  This position is thirty (30) hours per week, which at times will include evening and weekend hours. Annual salary: $31,200.  

Reports to:  Board of Directors

Responsibilities

1.  Leadership and Management:

A. Ensure ongoing excellence in programming and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, and communications; recommend to the Board of Directors timelines and resources needed to achieve FHF’s mission and strategic goals.

B. Work closely with the Board Chair to maintain and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio member of each committee of the Board, attending meetings as prioritized by the Board Chair. 

C. Work closely with the Board Treasurer to maintain the fiscal integrity of the organization, including operating within budgetary guidelines established by the Board of Directors.

D. Supervise and collaborate with staff, interns, and volunteers. 

E. Communicate effectively with the Board and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions. 

F. Manage and maintain records, documents and databases.

2.  Fundraising and Communications:

A. In collaboration with the Board of Directors, develop and implement fundraising activities and other revenue generating measures (such as submitting grant applications) to support FHF’s mission and strategic goals.  

B. Establish, maintain, and update FHF communications and social media presence.

C. Serve as an ambassador and FHF spokesperson regarding our mission, programs and services at press conferences, media interviews, community meetings and events related to our mission and with our community partners such as New Hanover County Chapter of NAACP, Coastal Horizons, and Equality NC.

D.        Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors. 

Requirements 

  1. Minimum of Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience.
  2. Understanding and ability to effectively articulate the particular issues, concerns and needs of LGBTQ+ individuals regarding sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, class, age and the intersection of identities.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to communicate cross-culturally and work effectively with individuals and groups, including those with socially marginalized identities and experiences.
  4. Ability to plan and execute community and fundraising events, working in conjunction with staff, Board members, and volunteers.
  5. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of FHF; ability to embody a commitment to cooperation, collaboration and mutual respect.
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills; experience with public speaking, delivering educational trainings and facilitating group activities.
  7. Experience in grant writing, management and reporting preferred.
  8. Experience in nonprofit administration and/or development preferred.
