Are you passionate about building a more equitable society through restorative capital and inclusive entrepreneurship? If so, consider joining Pacific Community Ventures, a mission-driven organization invested in racial and economic justice. We are seeking a Development Associate to support PCV’s fundraising efforts. Over the past decade, our research projects and client engagements have helped define and build the field of impact investing. In addition, we have become a leading statewide community development financial institution (CDFI) in California and scaled a nationwide mentorship platform for underestimated small business owners.

    About PCV

Pacific Community Ventures, PCV, is a nonprofit, mission-driven community development lender (CDFI) addressing racial and gender wealth gaps through the power of a Good Job. For the last 25 years PCV has supported small business entrepreneurs and their communities in the fight for economic, racial, and gender justice. We work side-by-side with small business leaders through our unique integrated model: combining Restorative Capital and Pro Bono Business Advising with our Good Jobs Innovation Lab that propels thriving communities with equitable jobs, and uplifts and amplifies their voices and needs through research and policy advocacy. In April 2024, we launched our climate justice mobilization fund. 92% of PCV’s loan capital supported women and/or BIPOC-owned businesses, and 98% supported small businesses located in economically distressed areas.

    Why You’re Needed

You’re interested in and contributing to the outreach and impact work of a community development organization like PCV – using strong persuasive writing and analytical skills for fundraising and communications projects. You are an organized, detail-oriented individual who can manage informational databases housing qualitative and quantitative data. Minimal prior experience in development or fundraising is required.

Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM tools is helpful, but not required.

    Core Responsibilities:

    • With the CEO, Chief of Staff, and program team leads assess PCV’s fundraising needs, prioritize and research key relationships for growth, and support outreach to PCV funders (e.g., foundations, government, corporate, and individuals)
    • Manage and maintain PCV’s fundraising pipeline: tracking fundraising communications, grant details, funding deliverables, and other fundraising-related objects through Salesforce and Asana. Implement improvements to PCV’s Salesforce system (for development) as needed.
    • Craft PCV’s story and expected impact for each opportunity, working with the Development Manager, Finance, and relevant team lead to develop a grant strategy and budget, collect pertinent documents and information, collect small business owner stories, write proposals, and submit the grant
    • Draft grant status reports, collecting the information required and coordinating the internal resources to ensure reports are submitted on time, and filing documents in accordance with PCV’s systems
    • Coordinate with PCV’s finance team to confirm budget proposals, terms and conditions for every grant received, and manage internal grants management and revenue recognition meetings
    • Work with the data team to accurately report PCV’s impact in proposals and reports while learning PCV’s data systems
    • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team on the creation, revision, and dissemination of PCV collateral (e.g., two-pagers, presentation decks, reports, etc.)
    • Create acknowledgement letters and tax receipts for grants and donations that come to PCV, as needed

    Qualifications, Skills, & Experience

    • An outstanding writer able to communicate to multiple audiences succinctly and persuasively around issues of racial wealth gaps and entrepreneurship, leveraging research and relevant data
    • Highly organized individual with great attention to detail
    • Experience effectively managing multiple projects simultaneously
    • Self-starter who thrives on collaborating with multiple team members
    • Experience in grant writing and reporting, development, or related field is preferred
    • Have at least an undergraduate degree
    • A commitment to advancing racial equity
    • Proficiency with the following systems (or equivalent system) is a plus: Salesforce, Microsoft Excel, Tableau, Canva

    Location/Travel

PCV’s office is located by the 19th Street BART Station in Oakland, CA. PCV works largely remotely and gathers for in-person staff retreats twice a year, and for team activities determined by team and manager. While team members in the San Francisco Bay Area sometimes meet in-person for collaborative work and strategy planning, this role may be performed largely remotely or hybrid.
