Climate Power has an immediate opening for a Communications Associate, Hispanic Media or Senior Associate, Hispanic Media to help drive media coverage within national, international, state, political, local Hispanic, and Spanish-speaking press on the politics of climate and the urgency for bold action. 

Climate Power is an independent strategic communications and paid media operation focused on building the political will and public support for bold climate action. Founded by the Center for American Progress Action Fund, League of Conservation Voters, and Sierra Club, Climate Power integrates hard-hitting research, polling, state and national earned media, digital and paid media to influence the national conversation, embolden leaders to take immediate, bold climate action, and expose climate deniers and their oil and gas lobby allies.

Responsibilities

  • Track and monitor Latino/Spanish coverage: Track and flag daily Spanish/Latino news and social content at the state and national level to insert Climate Power narratives and create press opportunities in Spanish/Latino press. 
  • Support Hispanic media strategy: Work with the Associate Director, Hispanic Media to develop and update a daily, weekly, and monthly calendar to drive Latino/Spanish coverage.
  • Develop materials: Write press releases, talking points, opinion pieces, and pitches. 
  • Support Surrogate strategy: Support press and surrogate outreach for Hispanic and Spanish-speaking media. 
  • Translate: Work on English to Spanish translations and vice-versa as needed.
  • Develop social content: Collaborate with Climate Power digital team translating and creating Latino/Spanish social content. Monitor Latino/Spanish political-climate influencers and political media, suggest retweets to social. 
  • Rapid response: Identify response to developing news stories. Monitor news events from key elected officials, Congressional Hispanic Caucus, along with crucial Latino voices at the state level, environmental stakeholders, business and the oil and gas lobby. 

Requirements & Qualifications

  • At least one year work experience. 
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Deep interest in the economic impact of climate change, clean energy jobs, environmental justice, and how these issues impact Latinos.
  • Experience with media/press, working with storytellers, or climate issue advocacy is a plus.

This full time exempt position reports to Climate Power’s Associate Director of Hispanic Media.

Pay for this position is commensurate with experience and responsibilities. The salary range for this position starts at $56,000. We offer a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) plan, and generous paid time off.
