The Education Curator ensures that the Windgate Museum of Art (WMA) builds strong bridges to students, faculty, staff, and community members, making the museum accessible and meaningful to everyone. Primary areas of responsibility include managing student staff, visitors, and programming.
The Education Curator is responsible for hiring, managing, training, and mentoring the approximately 20-25 Hendrix paid student workers who are tasked with providing all the front-line services to visitors—gallery tours, hands-on activities, visitor accommodations, and hospitality responsibilities—as well as special projects.
The Education Curator, in collaboration with student staff, ensures a positive experience for those visiting the galleries and attending programs or events. The position engages with Hendrix faculty, staff, and student groups to facilitate museum visits. The position also works with Museum Educators to create a robust series of thematic tours of the temporary exhibitions. Additionally, the Education Curator builds relationships with area schools for student tours and pre/post activities, creates relevant and engaging programming for general audiences, and works with civic groups to building audiences for the museum.
The Education Curator is responsible for developing public programming to accompany exhibitions, including weekly programs and monthly First Friday events. The position manages guest speaker contracts and logistics and handles program reservations for those attending.
