Position Summary:

The Digital Content Coordinator supports the creation and dissemination of digital content across the museum’s website and social media channels to serve a variety of institutional needs. S/he reports to the Digital Projects Manager and works closely both with the manager and website administrator, supporting website content development and updates, coordinating social media campaigns and programs, and adapting content across digital platforms. S/he liaises with NMWA’s Publications Department to ensure consistent institutional voice and accurate content and collaborates with Departments across the institution to promote and support programs. This entry level position is ideal for a beginning professional interested in social media within a museum setting and with a desire to build skills by supporting and coordinating a range of institutional digital initiatives.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate NMWA’s main social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube): oversee cross-departmental social media working group; write and schedule posts; create social graphics, short videos, and other features; seek opportunities for digital partnerships with other institutions
  • Coordinate NMWA’s annual Women’s History Month #5WomenArtists campaign
  • Stay up-to-date on current social media trends and bring new ideas to NMWA’s feeds
  • Assist with website: create new events and exhibition pages, review and approve page updates from other departments, format images, develop content, assist with design/development projects
  • Track goals and metrics to measure social media success and draft monthly reports
  • Secure image rights for online use and liaise with other departments as needed for institutional use
  • Photograph selected NMWA programs, installations, etc. for website and social media; cull and edit photos; and name and file according to institutional protocols
  • Respond to and/or distribute queries and comments
  • Participate in other projects of the Digital Engagement Department and the museum as required



This position requires an undergraduate or graduate degree and a minimum of one year of museum or related experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills/experience:


  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, think creatively, and take initiative
  • Superior written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of social media channels (especially Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube) and related best practices and comfort posting to these platforms
  • Experience using digital SLR camera
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop (preferred)
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS and Drupal Content Management System (preferred)
  • Passion for visual arts and championing women a plus!
