Program Manager for Health, Counties Futures Lab

The Program Manager for Health sits in Community Health and Justice portfolio in the Programs and Practices division of NACo’s Counties Futures Lab and helps to manage a portfolio of projects that aim to promote and foster county-level innovations nationwide. Duties of this position include a variety of professional assignments aimed at informing, educating and assisting county officials across the country in their efforts to improve local services related to health and public health. The Program Manager reports to the Associate Program Director for the Community Health and Justice portfolio. The position is dependent on the availability of project-based outside funding.

 Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Actively promote NACo health initiatives in written materials, conference calls and national webinars, small group convenings and national events.
  • Coordinate and staff working groups and networks that advance public health initiatives; engages with NACo members, groups and committees on these issues.
  • Provide quality information and guidance to county government officials on topics related to health and public health. 
  • Plan and conduct virtual and in-person technical assistance activities, idea exchanges and forums for county leaders.
  • Research best practices and develop educational resources such as webinars, workshops, case studies, toolkits and issue briefs.
  • Support survey development and dissemination on public health topics.
  • Manage the timely delivery, day-to-day quality and completion of project deliverables including other assigned duties under the guidance and direction of the Associate Program Director.
  • Identify funding opportunities and lead proposal development for future projects.
  • Maintain productive ongoing relationships with NACo members, foundation and corporate funders and other NACo departments.
  • This is not a federal policy advocacy position.
  • Some travel is required, estimated at four to six trips per year.

 

Qualifications:

·        3-5 years of experience in public health, public policy or local government sector.

·        Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in health, public health, communications or another related field.

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including in public speaking and in conducting formal meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Self-starter and shows enthusiasm for and strong content knowledge of public health policy and programs.
  • Passion for supporting innovative county government programs and policies.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local governments and relevant associations and organizations.
  • Brings collaboration, innovative ideas and creativity to the position and work products; works well under pressure and as part of a team and with external partners. 
  • Ability to work well in a political environment while maintaining non-partisan perspective.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain credibility and positive relationships with various constituencies.
