Writopia Lab, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that runs creative writing workshops for kids and teens, ages 6-18, is looking for a warm, detail-obsessed, full-time Registration Coordinator and Creative Writing Instructor for our Tenleytown DC location.

Writopia Lab is a mission-driven organization, and those on our administrative team are no less committed to our mission than our workshop leaders and executives. This position is an both an administrative and teaching position.

Are you invested in developing or furthering a career/lifestyle in youth literacy? We are looking for a passionate and mission-driven professional who has a strong desire to help ALL children find their voices through creative writing.  A majority of the time will be spent warmly and thoughtfully explaining our program to parents over the phone, responding to emails, maintaining a database, corresponding via email, and greeting people at the door. This person will be the first contact for many families, so we are looking for someone who is kind and patient, but also someone who aches to tie up all loose ends and respond to all inquiries.

As a writing instructor, you are half camp counselor (fun and funny, warm and engaging) and half savvy editor/teacher (astute, insightful, serious, open, sensitive). We train teachers extensively in our method.

Most job listings mention strong writing skills as a requirement, but the stakes are a little higher here because we are writing educators; written communication is a critical skill for all employees at Writopia. Your writing will go to parents, funders, board members, and others, so your chops must be as strong as your commitment to our mission.

Preferred:

  • 1 year of experience with youth, arts, non-profit
  • Published Writer
  • MFA

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree

This is a full-time, on-site position with hours that will shift according to workshop schedule. Benefits include:
