Purpose: To develop and lead a strategic communications plan for the Virginia Interfaith Center that advances its policies and programs and builds the organization.

 

Accountability: The position is directly accountable to the Executive Director.  

 

Responsibilities:  The person will:


         Communicate with and engage VICPPs base of leaders and activists.

·      Produce the weekly roundup.

·      Draft emails alerts and actions that engage members.

·      Work with program people to develop educational resources and programs.

·      Ensure that VICPP’s communication vehicles and tools are timely and professional.

·      Edit documents that will be used widely based on AP stylebook.

·      Use and/or update VICPP’s branding and style guidelines.

·      Manage the work of the graphic designer (consultant).

·      Develop and manage promotional plans for key events, such as Day for All People.

Advance policies and programs in the broader public/media.

·      Develop and implement communication campaigns to advance VICPP’s priority campaigns and programs.

·      Develop key messages on each priority campaign.

·      Produce press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor and other media resources to advance policies and programs.

·      Garner television and radio coverage of VICPP priorities.

·      Maintain and build the press list.

·      Track all media coverage that mentions VICPP.

Build VICPP’s digital media presence.

·      Manage and recruit more social media volunteers.

·      Plan and manage digital campaigns designed to advance policies and build the organization.

·      Develop and lead social media efforts on Facebook, twitter and other channels.

·      Place Facebook ads in strategic and effective ways for generating actions, raising money and adding names to the list.

·      Oversee the weekly broadcast show – Interfaith Live, VICPP’s Streamyard channel, except during the General Assembly.

Expand the number of people involved with and supporting VICPP.

·      Increase the number of people in the database, primarily through petitions, social media and actions.

·      Develop systems for outreach via faith-based communication vehicles.

·      Develop and implement Giving Tuesday campaigns and online fundraising campaigns, especially at year-end.

·      Work with the director in developing and managing fundraising appeals, including managing relationships with union printers.

Manage the website(s). 

·      Oversee the management and updating of the website, including ensuring the materials are updated and posted to the website on a regular basis.

·      Supervise and oversee the work of the web designer (consultant).

·      Write pieces needed for the websites and recruit others to write.

·      Update events and information on the website.

·      Post all press releases, media coverage

·      Make the website a dynamic and educational resource for the network and the broader public.


Other.

·      Participate as part of the leadership team.

·      Participate in regular staff meetings and events.

·      Other tasks as assigned.


Evaluation: The position will be evaluated based on this job description, annual goals and objectives and other tasks accomplished.


Key Skills and Experience: VICPP seeks candidates with:


·      Five years’ experience in communications work.  

·      Experience with and knowledge of faith communities.

·      Commitment to economic, racial and social justice.

·      Strong writing and editing skills.

·      Strategic approaches to using all forms of media to advance issues and build organizations.

Salary

$50,000 - $70,000Depends upon number of years in the field.
