Operations & Communications Manager

SUPERVISOR: President/CEO

STATUS: Full-time or possible part-time position. Will consider flexible schedule arrangements.

POSITION SUMMARY

The L’Enfant Trust is a non-profit organization founded in 1978 to preserve and revitalize Washington, D.C.’s historic communities. The Trust, an early pioneer of the use of conservation easements, holds over 1100 easements protecting the District’s historic buildings from demolition or inappropriate alterations. The Trust’s Historic Properties Redevelopment Program acquires and rehabilitates distressed historic buildings where such rehabilitation will have a positive impact on community revitalization.

The Trust is seeking a proficient Operations & Communications Manager with strong organizational skills to manage day-to-day operational tasks, collaborate with accounting personnel, and provide administrative support to the President. This unique role presents an excellent opportunity to work directly with and give strategic input to the head of a small, busy, non-profit working in the field of historic preservation and community revitalization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Process financial data and report to the Trust’s accounting personnel;

Maintain and keep up-to-date office files and related information;

Oversee organizational licenses and insurance policies;

Manage office technology: computer upgrades, safeguards, and file back-up;

Manage inventory of office supplies and equipment;

Assist in board meeting preparation and event planning;

Answer main phone line and respond to general inquiries;

Perform occasional tasks outside the office as needed;

Oversee the Trust’s social networking activities, website, newsletter and creation of other published electric and written communications; 

Research grant opportunities and assist with grant proposals;

Provide support for easement program: issue approval letters; prepare annual mailing, review city building permit lists, review annual photography, and maintain database file and digital file for each easement property;   

Administer preservation intern program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of experience in business or non-profit administration, fundraising and development, and/or communications and outreach;

Proficiency in financial management and record keeping;

Strong analytical, organizational and prioritization skills;

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively;

Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Word, Google, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, MailChimp, WordPress, and FileMaker Databases);

Superior writing skills including communication via electronic media;

Keen understanding of confidentiality standards and practices;

Familiarity with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

COMPENSATION:

Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Annual salary: $50,000 - $60,000.

Small, friendly office located near public transportation (Red Line Metro) in downtown Dupont Circle with the flexibility to do some work from home.
