The office is open Tuesday-Saturday during the school year and Monday-Friday otherwise; the Associate is expected to work on-site on Saturdays when the program is in operation.

Who We Are

The DC Youth Orchestra Program (DCYOP) is the region’s leading ensemble-based music education program for students ages 4-18. With the mission “music for young people; achievement for life!” DCYOP has fostered musical development and changed the lives of 60,000+ youth since 1960.

DCYOP students learn and grow through group lessons, sectionals, and ensemble rehearsals. Since March 2020, DCYOP has been operating remotely and programming is conducted both virtually and as of April 2021, in-person and outside. DCYOP is proud to be an inclusive organization and values the diversity of its student body: DCYOP’s students represent 250 different schools, 100 unique ZIP codes, and a range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. For more information, please visit www.dcyop.org

DCYOP’s excellence has been recognized at local, national, and international levels. Achievements include touring 23 countries, performances for U.S. presidents and diplomats, and collaborations with esteemed musicians like Yo-Yo Ma and Gustavo Dudamel. Honors include the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award (known as the Coming Up Taller awards) and the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Arts Education.

Since FY20, DCYOP’s annual contributed revenue has exceeded $1M and includes foundations, individuals, government grants, and corporate support. DCYOP has embarked on a new five-year strategic plan aimed at growing our student body locally through expanded programming as well as becoming a national thought leader in the field of equitable music education; this will require corresponding growth in its fundraising activities.
