Title: Development Associate, Grants and Sponsorships

Mentor: Director, Corporate, Foundation and Government Support

 

Position Summary:

The Development Associate for Grants and Sponsorships raises money to further The Arc’s mission of promoting and protecting the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Development Associate is a member of The Arc’s Development team, and will work on securing and managing corporate sponsorships and researching and writing grant proposals. The funds this position raises will support The Arc’s national programs, advocacy, and other activities, and the Development Associate will work closely with staff involved in those activities.

 

The Development Associate for Grants and Sponsorships works with the Director of Corporate, Foundation, and Government Support to conduct prospect research; assist with grant writing; manage benefits for corporate sponsors; and manage relationships with corporate sponsors. The Development Associate will also assist with grant reporting, and provide support to The Arc’s program teams to steward relationships with grant funders. This work may also entail interacting with senior staff and executive staff, as well as teams that support organizational functions such as communications, marketing, and event planning. This position will focus roughly 70% on sponsorship and 30% on grants, with an increased focus on sponsorships (and increased independence in securing and managing sponsors) as those revenues grow.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Identifies new corporate sponsors and increase sponsorship revenue for The Arc, with guidance from the Director of Corporate, Foundation, and Government Support.
  • Stewards relationships with sponsors throughout the year and at The Arc’s annual events.
  • Administers benefits for all sponsors, working closely with staff from other groups such as marketing, communications, finance, and events planning.
  • Tracks interactions with sponsors and funders and maintains integrity of records, including filing key documents, keeping detailed notes, and maintaining a calendar of deadlines.
  • Researches federal, foundation, and corporate funders using the internet and the Foundation Directory database to identify potential new funders for The Arc.
  • Supports the Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Support to prepare grant proposals by conducting literature reviews, creating or collecting information for appendices, and reviewing and editing proposals.
  • Writes and submits proposals and grant reports, as needed, with guidance from the Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Support.
  • Works with the Director of Corporate, Foundation, and Government Support to complete internal reports on the team’s progress, accomplishments, and budget.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, social sciences, or other applicable field, or equivalent work experience, with an emphasis on writing.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience, including applicable internships.
  • Experience in the disability field, civil or human rights work, or familiarity with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred. Interest in working for social justice is desired.
  • Experience with sales, business development, or fundraising a plus. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce a plus.
  • Proficiency conducting online research.
  • Excellent reading, writing, communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Must exercise discretion and good judgment, think creatively, and represent The Arc in a professional manner.
  • Capable of working effectively in a fast-paced team environment. Must be flexible and have strong time management skills. Must be able to manage multiple tasks while maintaining close attention to detail.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to and a passion for the work of The Arc.
