Position Overview: The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, seeks an individual to serve as Bursar. The Bursar oversees the overall operations of student financial services, billing and receivables and cashiering functions of the institution.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for review and verification of all tuition and fee charges on a daily basis
  • Responsible for daily review and posting of tuition charge transaction groups in Jenzabar
  • Review all on-line payments in CASHNet and review and post same in Jenzabar
  • Responsible for review, verification and posting of daily manual credit card receipts and Authorize.net credit card cash receipts
  • Maintain and monitor collections of past due student accounts based on reports from Allied and TMS; facilitate payment plans with TMS
  • Monitor and reconcile collections with Blackbaud
  • Establish refunds in accordance with refund policy as stated on the NYSID website and published in the annual catalog; review and edit payment/refund policies for semester course bulletins and catalog
  • Apply scholarship awards to appropriate student accounts and reconciliation of the same on a monthly basis
  • Assist in annual audit
  • Responsible for federal drawdowns (EDCAPS/G5) in accordance with data submitted to the Bursar’s Office from the Financial Aid Consultant
  • Responsible for disbursement of TAP/APTS
  • Meet with Financial Aid Counselor for reconciliation of financial aid disbursements and preparation of monthly reconciliation reports in compliance with COD requirements; prepare all financial aid refunds ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Respond to student inquiries regarding payment and billing issues in absence of Bursar Assistant
  • Assist Vice President of Finance & Administration as needed in reference to timely tuition receivable reporting
  • Responsible for maintenance of all hard copies/registration forms/check copies/credit card back up and required documentation
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging report with attention to delinquent accounts and follow up of same with Bursar Assistant
  • Responsible for coding, maintenance, and testing of all tuition charges and refund definitions in Jenzabar prior to the beginning of each semester
  • Oversee student health insurance billing and reporting
  • Oversee student housing charges, payments, and refunding of housing security deposits in conjunction with Dean of Students
  • Responsible for all billing, cash receipts and reporting in conjunction with other institutions/VA/VESID student accounts occasionally meeting with Registrar and Financial Aid Consultant regarding student status
  • Responsible for preparation of bookstore credit for Fed. Pell eligible students
  • Complete tax reporting documentation for international students; run 1098-T report and oversee production of 1098-T forms and mailing of same
  • Review all Graduation Candidacy and Diploma Forms to ensure all student accounts are paid in full
  • Maintain Bursar Office information on NYSID portal
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting or finance. Minimum 5 years’ experience in billing, collections or accounting field. Higher education or not-for-profit experience preferred. Must possess good written and communication expertise, excellent leadership and organizational skills, detail oriented and ability to multi-task and manage priorities. Experience working with Jenzabar or other registration/payment system preferred.
