Description


The NFLC will hire a full-time editor for a period ending June 30, 2019, with the possibility of an extension depending on excellent work performance and the NFLC’s staffing needs. The duties of the position can be performed remotely or while working in the NFLC offices in College Park, MD.


Duties


  • Using Chicago Manual of Style and in-house documentation, edit copy of electronic and print publications, including, but not limited to, multilingual educational multimedia applications, scholarly papers, administrative documents, and website content
  • Review copy for errors in grammar, syntax, usage, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and more
  • Review copy for substantive issues such as readability, tone and register, organization, originality, factuality, and agreement with development standards
  • Conduct research and gather information through published sources and by communicating with subject matter experts
  • Work closely with authors, subject matter experts, and others to resolve content issues
  • Proofread and run quality assurance testing for content when necessary
  • Provide editorial perspective during each production stage when necessary
  • Provide editorial support to all staff members
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least two years of professional copyediting experience
  • In-depth experience working with Chicago Manual of Style
  • Demonstrated excellence in written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with authors and others
  • Familiarity with web-based software applications and content management systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and SharePoint
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain productivity across multiple projects
  • Must be highly detail-oriented and able to work independently
