Founded in 1974, Illinois Humanities is a non-profit, state council of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Our mission is to strengthen the social, political, and economic fabric of Illinois through constructive conversation and community engagement. We set out to accomplish this mission through grantmaking, humanities-based educational programs, and public programming and exhibitions in the areas of public policy, arts, media & journalism, and the economy. 

In this full-time position for the Loop Office, the Executive Assistant/Office Manager will support the Executive Director and provide general administrative support and reception for the office. Acting as the first point of contact for visitors to the office and telephone and email inquiries, this individual should be friendly, knowledgeable and people-oriented. Maintaining an orderly office environment is essential and accurate and efficient work skills are valuable. Job duties will include general reception duties along with maintaining Executive Director’s communications and calendar, organization of Board of Directors meetings and donor database management.

What You Will Offer:

  • An excellent telephone manner and strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal and a positive attitude in dealing with people, including board members, staff, program participants, and vendors.
  • Proficiency with the standard office computer software suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to create mail merges, maintain spreadsheets, and conduct internet research.
  • Ability to organize and implement office projects and maintain filing systems, databases, and calendars. Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus.
  • Ability to take ownership of processes and initiate action/solution-oriented mind-set
  • Strong attention to detail/accurate work product/ability to multi-task
  • Motivated, friendly, flexible and outgoing demeanor

Compensation:

  • Salary range from $30,500 to $40,000

Work Environment:

  • Loop office is accessible. Work at off-site locations is required and those may not necessarily be fully accessible 
  • Evening and weekend work is sometimes required 
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. Employee is regularly required to talk, hear, see, and communicate effectively via computer
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds
