Nearly fifty percent of the world’s population will experience menstruation. The Pad Project’s job is to ensure that one hundred percent of them have the tools to manage it. “A period should end a sentence, not a girl’s education.”

The Pad Project’s mission is to create and cultivate local and global partnerships to end period stigma and to empower women worldwide. Founded by a group of high school students and their teacher, The Pad Project is a nonprofit dedicated to addressing global menstrual equity. Girls, particularly in low and middle-income countries, miss class because they lack access to affordable and hygienic menstrual products.

The non-profit’s film, Period. End of Sentence., won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short, further sparking a global conversation about menstrual equity. The documentary depicts how the installation of a pad machine provides access to affordable hygienic menstrual products and fosters a micro- economy for the women who operate it.

Since the film’s Netflix release and Oscar win, The Pad Project has received requests for pad machines from diverse individuals and organizations across 95 countries. The Pad Project is committed to devoting resources and partners responsibly with communities seeking a pad machine and other menstrual health management programs by distributing reusable cloth pads and holding local educational workshops.
