Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, Apex for Youth creates transformative social connections and celebrates cultural identity to build the confidence and self-efficacy of future generations.

Apex serves approximately 2,000 students annually from Kindergarten through their post-secondary years. We provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models. 

The National Virtual Mentoring Program (NVMP) addresses the personal, educational and social needs of high school students around the country through virtual one-on-one caring relationships with adult volunteers using a unique blend of one-on-one mentorship and group programming. NVMP is a newly created program that launched in January 2023. The program aims to bring meaningful mentorship to Asian American youth who might not otherwise have access to culturally specific resources and mentorship because of their location. It also aims to explore the diverse ethnic and geographic experiences that youth and mentors across the country bring to the program.

The NVMP Manager will be in charge of designing and piloting this virtual program using the program model from Apex’s New York City based programs. Reporting to the Associate Director of Mentoring Programs, the ideal National Mentoring Program Manager candidate will have a strong ability to build community with high school aged youth and volunteers in a virtual setting, strong curriculum and program design skills, and excellent program management skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee all aspects of the National Virtual Mentoring Program including program design, curriculum development, and workshop facilitation;
• Oversee the recruitment and matching process for all national mentoring pairs;
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with partners such as schools and community based organizations;
• Collaborate with the mentoring team to implement volunteer trainings, teamwide events, and to streamline programming across grade levels and sites;
• Maintain a caseload of up to 40 mentoring pairs, including providing relationship support to mentors and mentees on a regular basis; 
• Support collection and analysis of program data by the Program Data Analysis Manager; 
• Collaborate with Mental Health team for NVMP mentees on caseload;
• Collaborate with College and Career Success department to provide education-related programming to youth;
• Attend all program and leadership meetings, as necessary;
• Lead event-planning for major events, as necessary.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS 

• BA or BS required;
• 3-4 years experience working with youth preferred;
• Program management experience preferred; 
• Strong oral and written communication skills;
• Strong relationship building and community building skills; 
• Positive and bright disposition with “can do” attitude;
• Proactive nature and self starter, ability to problem-solve autonomously;
• Enjoys working independently, as well as collaboratively with a team;
• Candidates are expected to be able to commute to the Apex office in Manhattan at least 1-2 days a week;
• Ability to work Saturdays as needed, and take Sunday and Monday as the weekend. 

SALARY

The salary range for this position is $59,500-66,000, depending on experience.

Overview of Benefits:

Paid time off: In the first year of employment, employees are eligible for approximately a combined 40 days of vacation, holiday, personal, and sick leave (10 vacation days, 12 paid holidays, org-wide closures for one week over the winter holidays and one week during the Fourth of July, 5 sick days per year, 3 personal days a year). Additional vacation days accrue according to years worked in the organization.
