ASEP combines Arts Enrichment, Academic Support and Health & Wellness into one educational experience. Job Description: About the organization: The After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) is a multi-service nonprofit organization. For over 20 years ASEP has serviced the community with a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for children as their parents go to work, school or seek employment. ASEP’s comprehensive all in-one program offers students a variety of activities from arts enrichment, health and wellness to academic support. In addition, we offer language enrichment, specialized after-school clubs and lunchtime wellness support for our day school partners. ASEP currently serves 450 San Francisco youth in kindergarten through 5th grades. Our mixed funding model combines grant and tuition income to provide many scholarship opportunities for students and families. This allows the organization to sustain one unified and high-quality program at each of our school sites, for all children, regardless of their socio-economic background.

The Opportunity: ASEP is seeking to hire and support an ambitious, mission-inspired Executive Director (“ED”) with creative ideas and a work ethic that can successfully lead the organization. With 20 years of history, the organization continues to adapt to the needs of our community, expand our program offerings and drive efficiency in our operating processes and costs. This role will provide a rare opportunity for a hard-working individual to build upon this history, while also bringing their own vision to ASEP’s long term sustainability.

Reporting to the Board, the ED will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for overseeing a staff of 45 employees and 15 sub-contractor partners. The ED must be a passionate and effective communicator who can collaborate with staff, students, families, school administrators and funders. Capacity to innovate program systems and structures, champion social justice initiatives and stay up to date on legal business requirements are essential skills in this leadership role.

Primary Responsibilities:

ASEP Program, Product and Service Strategy & Delivery

Lead the strategy, design, marketing, delivery and quality of all programs and services.

Human Resource Management

Lead and inspire the ASEP team of (currently) 45 full-time and Part-time staff and 15 sub-contractors to achieve ASEP’s mission and follow our program processes. Ensure staff compliance to all personnel policies and procedures based on current laws and regulations.

Board Administration and Support Supports

Operations and administration of Board by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between Board and staff and supporting Board's evaluation of the Executive Director. Lead 5-6 Board meetings per year.

Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management

Manages $1.8M annual budget. Develops and recommends yearly budget for Board approval. Prudently manages organization's resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.

Community and Public Relations

Assures the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented with positive images and messaging to relevant stakeholders.

Fundraising

Oversees fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and administrating fundraising records and documentation.

Required Qualifications:

• Five to seven years of experience leading a senior management team, engaging in nonprofit boards, developing youth programs, forging community partnerships and demonstrating a commitment to social and racial justice.

• Knowledge and understanding of the youth development industry including common practices of positive behavior incentives, restorative practices, and curriculum development.

• A successful track record of resource development including the procurement and management of grant funding.

• Experience managing a large budget and budget systems including online payments and QuickBooks accounting.

• A strong communicator with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Ability to navigate challenging conversations and represent the organization to key stakeholders.

• Familiarity with common HR and legal best practices and requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications:

• Existing relationships with San Francisco-based youth organizations, city departments and other community contacts

• Awareness of community issues and climate of social justice work

• Experience with direct service in the youth development field (i.e. teaching or leading youth programs) and ability transfer those skills into a virtual or remote setting

• Master’s in Business Administration or a Master’s in Public Administration

• Ability to speak Spanish
