About Campaign Legal Center (CLC)

Campaign Legal Center (CLC) is a national nonprofit organization that fights for every American’s right to participate in the democratic process. We believe our democracy should be transparent, accountable and inclusive. CLC was founded in 2002 to advance democracy through law. We use tactics such as litigation, policy advocacy, communications and partnerships to achieve our mission. Our long-term goal is a government responsive to the people.

CLC’s commitment is to democracy. We do not make decisions based on advancing a particular political party or political outcome. We think about systemic impact when we choose which work to pursue, but we work at all levels of government to introduce innovative ideas that will drive significant change or set an important legal precedent. Our priority is engaging and driving action – whether in the courtroom, newsroom or statehouse.

Position Overview

CLC is seeking applicants for a Policy Fellow to begin work in January 2022. The Policy Fellow will be a key part of CLC's policy team.  The policy team works on all of CLC’s core issue areas—voting, campaign finance, ethics and redistricting—with a particular focus on advancing CLC’s policy priorities. CLC works to improve democracy policy at the federal, state, and local levels. This involves developing policy solutions and working with government officials and other democracy groups to enact, implement, and administer policies that enable all Americans to meaningfully participate in the political process. The ideal candidate for this position will have an interest in the details and nuance of effective elections policy, and the drive to figure out how to get things done. Projects for this fellowship will combine policy development, advocacy, and public education. Applicants with a background or interest in election administration and combatting the threat of election subversion are encouraged to apply.

Please note, the fellowship is time-limited for one year with the possibility of a one year renewal. This position is in Washington, D.C.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help build CLC’s growing work combatting election subversion.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support policy development and advocacy projects.
  • Draft legislative and administrative testimony.
  • Draft and edit reports and other public education and advocacy materials.
  • Represent CLC at coalition meetings and conferences.
  • Other duties based on the specific project or position as developed.
  • Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • MPP, J.D. or equivalent graduate degree, completed in the last three years.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to distill complex issues to key points, and effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and drive projects from start to finish.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Detail-oriented project manager
  • Commitment to the nonpartisan nature and overall mission of CLC.
  •  Demonstrated interest in election administration, campaign finance, voting rights, redistricting, or government ethics issues is preferred but not required.
