 Job Description

 EFA website:

·     Work with website developers, Board members, general manager, and staff to maintain and enhance the functioning of our website

·     Coordinate and maintain schedules among various partners

·     Assist members and the public with using the website; diagnose and address basic website functionality and user issues

·     Review and report on Google analytics


Online project management and communication platforms (Groups.io, Google Drive, Dropbox, HostMySite, others):

·     Onboard members, staff, and Board members as needed

·     Provide technological support to users of the platforms

·     Evaluate effectiveness and research alternatives as needed

·     With our email hosting service, maintain domain email addresses; troubleshoot for users; research new email host


EFA biennial conference:

·     Work with the conference committee on website provider selection and website setup and maintenance, and assist with user registration questions

·     Assist attendees, speakers, volunteers, and staff during the conference as needed, including with technical and equipment questions (note: the conference will be held in person or online depending on health guidance at the time)

This position reports to the EFA general manager.


Requirements

Strong ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects, work with a team, and meet deadlines

Excellent spoken and written communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent organizational skills and superior attention to detail

Strong technical skills, including knowledge of WordPress, HTML, Google applications, Dropbox, Microsoft and Adobe office applications; knowledge of email hosting services, Sakai LMS, and Groups.io are pluses

Strong ability to research and report on new areas

Strong problem-solving skills

Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills and platforms

Understanding of, or interest in and willingness to learn about, the concerns and priorities of freelance editorial professionals

Experience working in a membership organization a plus

Comfortable working on site or virtually

Ability to adjust schedule to work throughout our three-day biennial conference, to be held next in August or September of 2021, and possibly to travel to the Washington, DC, area for this

Bachelor’s degree


Location and Hours

New York City-based preferred. The office is operating virtually until health guidelines permit return to our space in Midtown Manhattan. Hours TBD, within regular office hours (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.) and including consistent availability during daily staff meeting times.

The Editorial Freelancers Association is the largest and oldest US-based professional association dedicated to the needs and concerns of independent editors, writers, proofreaders, indexers, and other communications specialists. We are a 501(c) 6 nonprofit association. Our small central office staff works with and supports the Board of Governors, Board-run programs and initiatives, and all EFA members and volunteers, and provides assistance and information to the public.
