Based out of our D.C. office, this high-impact position is ideal for a driven and skillful team player who is motivated by the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development of one of today’s most exciting and evolving policy areas.

The Membership Assistant’s main responsibility is to assist with entering and ensuring the information in MPP’s CRM database system is validated and comprehensive. This position will support the Database Manger and the Membership team. Other important tasks include engaging with Members and Donors, relaying MPP information to specific parties, and communicating between members and MPP.

This position requires attention to detail, and multitasking. The candidate should be comfortable with Excel and Microsoft. They should also be able to commute into the DC-based office at the times agreed upon by senior leadership.

Responsibilities

Membership Administration (70%)

  • Update and assist with maintaining membership database (CRM)
  • Prepare and send out monthly reports as assigned
  • Process new and renewing memberships
  • Manage membership benefits program (answer questions, new registrations, working with vendors to get reports)
  • Support Database Manager with projects as needed
  • Assist leaders with request for mail lists, surveys, and other requests as needed
  • Manage and respond to the membership department email and voice mail boxes
  • Provides administrative/project support for membership initiatives including but not limited to membership dues processing and member inquires by email and phone

General Administrative Support (30%)

  • Maintain inventory and purchasing of membership department office supplies and coordinate maintenance of office equipment
  • Assist with other projects as assigned which may include filing, copying, bulk mailing, responding to phone inquiries, Excel spreadsheet preparation, office management tasks, coordinating with staff in other offices, etc.
  • Assist with donation processing
  • Assist with events and special projects as requested
  • Check and gather mail from MPP mailboxes regularly

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission of the Marijuana Policy Project, appreciation for community nonprofits, and support for the organization's strategic goals
  • Strong customer-service orientation
  • Some familiarity with the nonprofit sector (as volunteer, employee, board member, client, constituent, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in English (verbal and written, online and in social media)
  • Experience with business English including spelling and grammar
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Maintain high professional ethical standards
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Take pride in responding quickly to all inquiries and requests
  • Impeccable follow-through skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint/Keynote
  • Familiarity with Mac and other Apple products a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred (not required)
  • Non-profit experience is a plus but not a requirement
