Who We Are:

The Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition is the only non-profit organization in the Washington, D.C. area focused exclusively on providing free legal assistance to child and adult immigrants detained by the government in the Capital Region.

Position Summary:

The HumanResources Associate reports to the Operations Manager and Associate Director and is responsible for planning, and implementing human resource programs, services, and policies. The Human Resources Associate interfaces with staff and outside counsel while helping to lead the human resources program.

General Duties and Responsibilities[1]:

Human Resources

  • Places job postings/advertisements for open positions in Paylocity and other portals as assigned. Attends recruitment fairs with other employees.
  • Takes the lead with new employee onboarding. Works with hiring managers to create onboarding schedules.
  • May conduct orientation for new-staff and interns.
  • Administers offboarding logistics for interns and staff.
  • Manage employee benefits and personnel data.
  • Work with Operations Manager and Associate Director on revising employment policies.
  • Updates and ensures the accuracy of employee information in organizational portals.
  • Maintain employee records (attendance, EEO data, etc.) according to policy and legal requirements.
  • Enrolling employees in or making changes to employee benefits and responding to inquiries relating to benefits.
  • Serves as the first point of contact for employee questions and requests. Develops an understanding of CAIR Coalition benefits to be able to answer employee questions. Escalates issues as needed to other members of the HR team.
  • Provides administrative assistance with payroll and benefit reconciliation.
  • Fulfills requests for verifications of employment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Administrative

Assist with the office move scheduled to take place on July 2021.

What Else You Should Know:

Salary

Commensurate with experience working in human resources. The starting salary with one year of experience in human resources is $46,600.

Travel

This position will require some weekly in-office hours during the COVID-19 pandemic, in accordance with all CAIR Coalition safety protocols. Travel to the Baltimore, MD office may be required.

Position Location

This position is based from the Washington, D.C. Office.

COVID-19 Disclaimer

This is a full-time in-person position, located in Washington D.C. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all CAIR Coalition staff are currently working remotely. It is anticipated that staff will work from their home office starting November 2021. This date is subject to change.

The employee ensures that all administrative aspects of their position are carried out without managerial intervention, including timekeeping, file upkeep, database upkeep, etc.

CAIR Coalition’s benefits package includes (a) subsidized health, dental insurance, and vision insurance (CAIR Coalition pays a very high rate of the insurance package, for which we can provide additional information); (b) life insurance valued at $50,000, as well as long and short term disability; (d) the option to set up a Flexible Spending Account (beginning January 1, 2021); and (d) the option to set up a 403(b) account (the equivalent of a 401(k) account for nonprofits) which the organization has the option, for all employees on an annual basis, to match at a certain percentage after one year of continuous employment.
