About the University Network for Human Rights 

The University Network for Human Rights facilitates supervised undergraduate engagement in the practice of human rights at colleges and universities in the United States and across the globe. We partner with advocacy organizations and communities affected or threatened by abusive state, corporate, or private conduct to advance human rights at home and abroad; train undergraduate students in interdisciplinary human rights protection and advocacy; and collaborate with academics and human rights practitioners in other parts of the world to foster the creation of practical, interdisciplinary programs in human rights. 

Description

The University Network for Human Rights seeks highly motivated entry-level and early-career applicants to join its vibrant and fast-growing team. The Program Associate will work closely with a small, dynamic team of human rights practitioners to administer programs aimed at training the next generation of human rights advocates. The Program Associate role is a unique opportunity for recent college graduates to engage with human rights advocacy while helping to develop an innovative model for human rights education and practice. This position is located at our headquarters at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, planning, and execution of a diverse portfolio of programs that seek to engage the next generation of advocates through supervised human rights practice
  • Oversee program logistics, including bookings, reimbursements, and the maintenance of documentation, records, and contracts
  • Manage correspondence with external partners, vendors, and program participants
  • Assist in communications, marketing, and recruitment campaigns for specific programs
  • Manage and analyze post-program evaluations
  • Provide support in grant writing and partnership development
  • Build and maintain contact lists and email distribution databases
  • Provide substantive and administrative support as needed by other team members

Required Qualifications

Successful applicants will hold a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, and possess 0-2 years of work experience. They will have demonstrated a commitment to human rights, social justice, and/or community-based advocacy. They will have full command of the English language and navigate standard software with ease, e.g. Microsoft Office, GSuite, and social media platforms. 

Preferred Qualifications

Successful applicants will possess many, though possibly not all, of the following qualifications: superior writing skills in varied registers; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; an ability to handle competing priorities and deadlines; a keen attention to detail and organization; fluency in languages other than English, preferably Spanish; a strong academic record; comfort with additional software, such as: InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, ArcGIS, social media API, social media analytics, QuickBooks, etc. 

Compensation

$40,000 plus benefits, including health insurance. 

Term of Appointment

Start date: March 2020 (negotiable). The initial term of appointment is expected to be one year from the start date. This position is subject to renewal, extension, or modification after the initial one-year period. This is a full-time position.
