Organizational Background:

Founded in 1971, Youth & Opportunity United (Y.O.U.) is an Evanston and Skokie based youth development agency that provides services and leadership to meet the emerging needs of young people and their families in the communities we serve. Y.O.U. currently offers a range of year-round services including afterschool enrichment, summer programming, clinical counseling & outreach, and family engagement, that empower more than 1,600 young people annually.


The Facilities Assistant is responsible for cleaning and maintenance tasks for Y.O.U.’s administrative office and office grounds. The Facilities Assistant also maintains the Y.O.U. vans. This is a part-time hourly position, averaging 12-15 hours a week, supervised by the Operations Manager. Benefits include accrued paid time off and professional development opportunities. Hourly pay rate has flexibility and is commensurate to experience.

Details of Role and Significant Segments:

Janitorial 60%: The Facilities Assistant will work to keep Y.O.U.’s office clean and well-maintained by performing cleaning and maintenance tasks as outlined by the maintenance checklist, including but not limited to the following tasks:

  • Removing garbage and recycling from all Y.O.U. office
  • Vacuuming, sweeping, and/or mopping floors
  • Washing bathrooms and kitchen facilities
  • Dusting office tables and desks
  • Maintaining janitorial and maintenance supplies
  • Washing Windows
  • Other tasks as requested

Facilities Maintenance 30%:

  • Office grounds upkeep – shoveling, removing garbage, clearing doorways and cleaning windows and doors
  • Ensure the Y.O.U. parking lot and sidewalks are free from litter and debris
  • Inspect all communal spaces to identify problems with litter, mechanical failure or breakdown
  • Moving/assembling furniture
  • Van maintenance, including pick up/drop off at repair shops, gas filling, oil changing, and cleaning
  • Running errands as needed

Building Events 10%:

  • Event space set-up and break down


  • Fluent in English
  • Able to lift up to 60 lbs
  • Familiarity with cleaning and housekeeping tasks
  • Attention to cleanliness and order
  • Handyperson
  • Valid driver’s license and a clear driving record
  • Professional and friendly manner
  • Flexibility with work hours


Salary & Benefits:

Pay: Hourly rate, commensurate on experience

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday evenings (5pm-8pm) and possible weekend hours
