The Organization

Make the Road New York (MRNY) builds the power of Latino working class communities to achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, and survival services. Make the Road New York operates neighborhood-based community centers in Bushwick, Brooklyn; Jackson Heights,Queens; Port Richmond, Staten Island; Brentwood, Long Island and Westchester. With a membership 23,000 low-income New Yorkers, MRNY tackles the critical issues facing our community: workplace justice, tenants’ rights, immigrant civil rights, language access, TGNCIQ (transgender, gender non-conforming, intersex and queer) justice, public education, and health care access.


The Current Position

We’re seeking apart time receptionist that enjoys working in a fast- paced office and is able to handle complex competing priorities including properly directing walk ins, members and calls, event support, payment processing, and support with facilities scheduling.

This position will work closely with our Queens Office Manager and administrative team to help coordinate the day to day operations in our busiest office. He or she must demonstrate effective and efficient planning with strong customer service skills and the ability to exercise good judgement. Strong organization skills, professionalism and confidentiality are crucial to this role. This position will join our operations team to support various events and other administrative task that may arise.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: answering phones, receiving guests, membership intake, data entry, processing membership dues payments, photocopying, faxing, assisting staff with job requests, updating and maintaining bulletin boards, assisting with special events and other duties as assigned including project management of special projects and initiatives.

 

Requirements: Applicants must have at least 2 years of customer service experience and some previous experience working in an office setting. Applicants must be efficient, communicative, a team player, have experience working with a wide range of people, must work well under pressure, be a fast learner and a people person. In addition, applicants must be able to type at least 40 wpm, and have demonstrated computer experience in office programs (Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.).

 

Hours Per Week: 15 hours

Monday- Wednesdays 2-6pm

Thursday 1-4pm

 

Location: Make the Road New York's Jackson Heights office 92-10 Roosevelt Ave
