JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Assistant Business Representative

 

IATSE Local 871 represents over 2,900 Script Supervisors, Coordinators, Accountants, and Allied Production Specialists in the Entertainment Industry. We have a current opening for an Assistant Business Representative. This position will assist the Business Representative with all matters related to the operations of Local union.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·        Respond to phone and email inquiries from members, production companies, and payroll companies;

·        Investigate member issues and potential contract violations; and discuss with Labor Relations representatives; and file grievances as appropriate;

·        Assist with preparation for negotiations, organizing campaigns, and internal organizing initiatives;

·        Attend negotiations; grievance meetings; membership, board, and craft meetings; and General Executive Board meetings, union conventions and events;

·        Additional duties as assigned by the Business Representative.

 

Skills, knowledge and abilities:

 

·        Working knowledge of collective bargaining especially in a freelance, entertainment industry environment;

·        Experience representing and advising members on workplace issues;

·        Knowledge and experience in external and internal organizing for labor unions;

·        Broad understanding of the issues facing below-the line workers in the entertainment industry

·        Excellent written communication skills

·        Computer proficiency (excel, power point, word, outlook, internet-based research and social media)

·        Professional phone manner and attention to detail

·        Excellent interpersonal skills

·        Ability to work independently with little to no supervision

·        Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and automobile for business use is required.

·        Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

·        A background check will be performed prior to hiring.
