Uncommon Good is a nonprofit organization that operates education, urban farming, health and environmental programs for low-income families. Its education program, Connect to College, is a college access program that provides disadvantaged students in 4th – 12th grades with mentors as role models. It also supplies academic tutors, college preparation through the high school scholars program, enrichment opportunities, and real world learning experiences. Its urban farm program, CAUSA, provides healthy food for Uncommon Good families and the wider community. Its Medicine for the Economically Disadvantaged (MED) program supports young doctors who serve in disadvantaged communities, and also functions as a health career pipeline for Uncommon Good students. Uncommon Good is housed in a first-of-its-kind-in-the-world Whole Earth Building that was built by hand with the assistance of Uncommon Good students, their families and hundreds of community volunteers. It is a landmark green building that has been visited by people from every continent.


Position Summary:  The MED Director 1) engages in research, fundraising and reporting for the program, 2) carries out the day-to-day operations of the loan repayment assistance activities, and 3) creates and helps execute health career pipeline activities for Uncommon Good students.


Responsibilities:

·        Research for private and government grant opportunities and contracts

·        Preparation of  grant proposals, and grant and contract reports

·        Oversight of approximately $20 million in program funds

·        Creation and staffing of promotional events for the program

·        Management of MED's social media accounts

·        Review of MED applications, creation of grant paperwork and management of the monthly payments to grantees

·        Regular employment checks on grantees

·        Financial bookkeeping

·        Data collection and  management

·        Creation of health career pipeline activities for Uncommon Good youth, and collaboration with Uncommon Good's education staff to carry out the activities

·        Website maintenance for the MED program

·        Providing other assistance to the Executive Director as needed for the MED program


Required Skills:

·        Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access), WordPress, and Adobe-Acrobat

·        Flawless business English writing, proofreading and editing skills

·        Proficiency with basic mathematics, including division, multiplication, fractions and percentages

·        Event creation and coordination

·        Excellent interpersonal communication skills

·        Facility with social media, especially Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

·        Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines calmly and be exceptionally detail-oriented

·        Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people including donors, staff, volunteers, grant recipients, students, parents and the general public


 

 

Other Requirements:

·        A four-year college degree (B.A. or B.S.)

·        Willingness to work flexible hours, as work is sometimes required on evenings and weekends

·        Prior successful experience working in a trusted position handling funds
