About Powering Potential

Powering Potential enhances education through technology in developing countries by providing learners with the tools they need to succeed as 21st century global citizens.

Our award-winning solar-powered computer programs deliver digital libraries (no internet required) and training to teachers and students in remote villages that have no access to the national electrical grid.

We are looking for a Development Director to join a team of dedicated professionals committed to Powering Potential's mission with a focus on planning and overseeing campaigns to raise funds and enhancing our outreach to potential donors.

About the role

The key focus of this role will be on creating awareness about the mission of Powering Potential and ensuring that fundraising campaigns are effective by researching grants as well as potential donors and expanding Powering Potential's network of donors. The incumbent will be required to meet fundraising targets and recruit quality monthly donors. In this public-facing role, the incumbent will also be expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and conduct, consistent with Powering Potential's values.   

The role is a long term opportunity with Powering Potential. It requires a time commitment of at least 30 hours a month and will be paid $2,000/month.

Required Skills and Education Background

Candidates with a degree in international development, philanthropic studies, non-profit management, social sciences, financial management, public relations, or business are preferred. Must have previous fundraising experience.

Additionally, excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal, marketing skills, knowledge of contract management, and research skills are required. Salesforce experience is preferred but not necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Create a strong fundraising message for Powering Potential in line with our vision that appeals to potential donors
  • Identify, contact, develop relationships and solicit donations from foundations and individual donors
  • Research grant opportunities
  • Organize campaigns or events to solicit donations
  • Leverage online platforms to raise funds  
  • Work closely with the Social Media Manager to design fundraising campaigns, promotional materials and increase awareness of our organization’s work, goals, and financial needs.    
  • Maintain records of donor information as well as potential donors
  • Evaluate the success of previous fundraising events and leverage learnings and connections for future campaigns
