Who We Are:  

Food Lifeline is a Seattle-based nonprofit working to feed people experiencing while working to end hunger for tomorrow. We source and procure over 50M lbs of food each year from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers which is then sorted and repacked, warehoused, and shipped at our Hunger Solution Center by a team of talented warehousing professionals and over 17K volunteers each year. Food Lifeline then provides this food to more than 300 food pantries, shelters, and meal programs across Western Washington. This work, combined with our advocacy, policy, and community partnerships create a sustainable approach to ending hunger in our region.


What we’re looking for:  

We are currently hiring a full time VP of Finance Accounting (CFO). This position provides a pivotal senior leadership role within the organization, serving as the senior leader of the Finance and Accounting function and driving sound financial and accounting practices to support the organization. 


In this role you’ll:

·        Serve as a key member of the senior leadership team of as part of the collaborative group that drives and shapes the mission, culture, and operations of Food Lifeline overall.

·        Advise senior leadership on Finance and Accounting issues.

·        Develop and implement financial processes and systems to support all facets of the organization.

·        Lead all areas of finance and accounting including financial budgeting and forecasting, accounting, tax, treasury and annual audits.

·        Develop processes to ensure financial results and related metrics are available timely, distributed to appropriate departments and utilized for organizational decision making.

·        Provide financial reporting and analysis for Board of Directors, donors, and other stakeholders.

·        Ensure systems and processes are developed to ensure appropriate internal controls and compliance with US GAAP, legal, governmental and tax requirements.

·        Lead and develop internal financial policies, procedures, and systems to support organizational growth.

·        Manage all corporate insurance policies.

·        Cultivate and lead a culture of respect and collaboration both within the Finance team and interdepartmentally. Ensure timely, thorough, and effective problem solving for any and all issues that arise. Build and develop a team dedicated to achieving goals and working across departments.


Who You Are:  

·        You’re an experienced leader with at least 10 years of accounting experience in a financial management or senior auditing role. You will be best served if you have nonprofit experience as well.

·        You have strong analytical and organizational skills, and you are a whiz at developing and implementing financial models and systems and processes that support an organization’s mission and meet the needs of colleagues across the organization.

·        Your leadership style is centered on listening, supporting, empowering, and clearing barriers. Others experience you as a stellar communicator with high self-awareness and emotional intelligence. You will not waver in promoting and ensuring positive cross-team collaboration and problem solving. You operate with humility and the ability to change and be changed.

·        You have an awareness and understanding of the role inequity and social injustice play in creating and perpetuating poverty. You’re able to help Food Lifeline develop equity practices within our workplace, programs, and services.

·        You care deeply about people experiencing hunger and hold them at the center of your actions.


Supervisory Responsibility:

This position directly manages one staff member, the Director of Finance and Accounting. Position indirectly manages two additional accountants.


·        Performs supervisory functions for Department including: establishing staffing needs; recommend/approve hiring; establish work schedules; orient, train, develop, and assure continuing education for staff; assign work; access and manage performance; advocate for employees; resolve complaints; counsel, coach, and mentor; recommend/approve terminations.

Required Qualifications:


·        Demonstrated overall commitment to promoting and enhancing equity, diversity, and inclusion at Food Lifeline through internal operations and external programming.

·        Understanding of the intersections between hunger, poverty, racial inequity, and social injustice.

·        Ability to develop and maintain positive and collaborative work relationships with people from all backgrounds and experiences.

·        Experience with team leadership; including the recruiting, training and retaining of skilled finance and accounting staff

·        Strong analytical and organizational skills, including development and implementation of financial models, systems and processes

·        Excellent writing, visual and presentation/communications skills

·        Communication – ability to clearly and simply articulate ideas, framing problems and solutions

·        Change management - demonstrated ability to drive organizational change

·        Skill in using computer software including MS Office, Excel, Navision

·        Skill in using computer software designed for accounting such as Microsoft Navision

·        Ability to work as member of a team and independently.

·        Ability to recognize the need for due care with confidential information.

·        Ability to develop work teams.


Education and/or Experience:

·        Minimum 10 years accounting experience in senior audit, accounting, or financial management role. Non-profit experience highly preferred.

·        Accounting designation (CPA preferred) or equivalent combination of related experience and education.


Job Conditions:

 

Work is performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, heating and ventilation. Requires extended periods of sitting, use of laptop computer, and the ability to routinely lift and carry up to 10 pounds. Position may be subject to periodic increased workloads due to month/year end close, budgeting, and audits.     

Physical Demands:

 

Prolonged periods of sitting while keyboarding; repetitive use of hands and wrists. Requires extensive close work and prolonged mental focus on figures, forms and computer screens. Requires use of desktop computer terminal, and the ability to routinely lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
