Center for Safety & Change is seeking a full-time Community Educator. This 35-hour per week, position is a non-exempt role that reports to the Program Manager of School-Based Programs. The Community Educator is responsible for training middle school, high school and college-age students on gender based violence, other forms of oppression, and teen activism.

                                                                                        

This position requires flexible hours, which may include early mornings, evenings and weekends. An interest in social justice issues and experience working with teens is desirable. The successful candidate must possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite and social networking.

The mission of the Center for Safety & Change is to develop strategies to end gender-based violence and provide shelter, legal and supportive services that empower survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse and human trafficking. The Center is committed to changing systems that tolerate and perpetuate oppression. The Center is a multi-disciplinary organization that provides shelter, rape crisis and domestic violence counseling and advocacy, education and prevention, and legal services to all impacted communities in Rockland County. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·        Facilitate Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program (TDVPP) workshops and co-facilitate Student Activists Ending Dating Abuse (SAEDA) meetings, events, and trainings.

·        Co-develop training programs and materials for school and teen group presentations.

·        Participate in planning meetings and curriculum development.

·        Participate in community meetings, serve as a consultant to community groups, and work to build community capacity to address gender-based violence & other social oppressions.

·        Update and maintain a presence on social media sites.

  • May occasionally have to transport students in agency vehicle.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


 

 

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Associate’s degree plus relevant experience required.
  • Community organizing experience a plus.
  • Must have experience in public speaking, social networking, and working with youth.

·        Bilingual/bicultural candidates encouraged to apply.

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee must possess the ability to communicate with staff, students and clients. The employee must occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.

·        Valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation a must.
