    Who We Seek

    The Hispanic Federation is seeking a passionate and patient Bilingual Digital Skilling Instructor to lead in-person classes for adult learners in our computer lab. This instructor will work evenings and weekends, teaching essential computer skills to a diverse group of students with varying levels of digital literacy, from absolute beginners to those ready to explore more advanced topics like email, Microsoft Suite, Google Drive, AI tools, LinkedIn, and navigating online portals.

    The ideal candidate is fluent in both English and Spanish, has strong classroom facilitation skills, and is comfortable teaching foundational to intermediate computer skills. Additionally, a successful candidate will be a self-starter with experience working in the Latino community in North Carolina. This role requires flexibility, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to empowering learners through technology.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    Community Engagement and Outreach

    • Teach computer literacy classes to adult learners in both English and Spanish
    • Instruct students on a range of foundational and intermediate digital skills, including:
      • Powering on and operating a computer; using a mouse and keyboard; typing and basic word processing
      • Navigating the internet; setting up and using email accounts
      • Utilizing productivity tools in Google Workspace and Microsoft 365
      • Using social media platforms, student and health portals, and introductory AI tools
      • Developing digital literacy skills, including the ability to identify reliable news sources and credible information online
    • Create and maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
    • Monitor and track student attendance, engagement, and participation
    • Assess student work by grading homework, quizzes, and tests; provide timely and constructive feedback
    • Facilitate collaborative learning through group work and peer interaction
    • Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet diverse learner needs and skill levels
    • Administer pre- and post-assessments to evaluate learning outcomes and progress
    • Manage a classroom of up to 18 students, ensuring a productive and respectful learning environment
    • Maintain proper use of equipment and classroom materials, including:
      • Ensuring all devices are maintained, shut down properly, and returned to designated storage
      • Reporting equipment issues or maintenance needs to appropriate staff promptly
    • Promote and enforce digital safety and security practices among students

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Fluency in English and Spanish (spoken and written) required
    • Experience teaching or tutoring adult learners, preferably in computer literacy or digital skills
    • Comfortable working with individuals who have little or no experience with technology
    • Strong communication and classroom management skills
    • Ability to tailor instruction to different learning styles and levels
    • Familiarity with common software (Microsoft Office, Google Suite), internet tools, and basic troubleshooting
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as scheduled
    • Strong understanding of Latino and social justice issues and a commitment to Hispanic Federation's mission and core values.
    • Candidate must possess a current, valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    This is an hourly, part-time, temporary position paying $30 per hour depending on experience. The instructor will work approximately 10 hours per week, facilitating two classes per week.
