What is the Role?

Coney Island Prep is looking for an amazing, dedicated Network Director of Operations to join us! The mission of the school’s Operations Team is to make teaching better and easier by ensuring our schools are warm, welcoming, safe, clean, efficient, and deliberate. The Network Director of Operations (NDOO) position is integral to the success of this mission, as they develop the leaders responsible for execution of this work.

The Network Director of Operations will be primarily responsible for ensuring that day-to-day campus operations run smoothly, and that schools are operated in alignment with organizational goals and compliance requirements by managing and developing campus-level leaders and staff to do so. The Network Director of Operations will lead operational improvement efforts across the K-12 program, provide coaching support to two campus-level Directors of Operations, and support and oversee the quality of IT, facilities, and compliance workstreams. The NDOO will be hired by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) and will report to the COO.


What You’ll Be Asked To Do


Lead Campus Operations Teams to Excellence

  • Communicate the vision for excellence in school operations, partnering with the Directors of Operations and other network operations leaders to set operational goals, create clear school operations standards and processes, progress monitor results, and coach regional and school teams to close gaps on key operational goals.
  • Provide coaching and support to campus-level Directors of Operations to ensure smooth daily operations on campus and effective school leadership.
  • Provide oversight to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws. 
  • Ensure clear and timely communication of important operational updates/information to schools as well as network staff.


Operations Talent Development and Collaboration

  • Effectively manage, coach and develop staff with an assets-based approach, cultivating a collaborative and inclusive team culture that empowers direct reports, and where diverse backgrounds and perspectives are respected and valued.  
  • Oversee the strategy and execution of ongoing School Operations professional development for all Associate, Coordinator, and Manager roles.
  • Ensure our schools are staffed with strong, growing Ops leaders who are systems-minded and results-oriented. Develop deep relationships and partnership with Directors across departments on the hiring, role clarity, performance management, and ongoing development of all school operations roles.
  • Evaluate development needs by collaborating with network and campus leadership in order to create and facilitate effective training.
  • Provide coaching and support to Operations Cohort Team Leads to ensure strong communities of practice.
  • Facilitate Director of Operations professional development and collaboration, and lead regular Directors meetings to promote collaboration across operations functions and between the network operations leadership and campus-level operational leadership.


Compliance, IT, Finance, and Facilities

  • Lead efforts to assess our organization’s operational strengths and areas of growth across specializations and departments, and coordinate the action steps necessary across teams and layers of the organization to ensure the needs are met.
  • Maintain a system for ensuring a clear set of standard operating procedures exists for core systems, lead operations teams to codify best practices, and ensure continued improvement of org-wide operational systems.
  • Support the Compliance Team in the compliance oversight and improvement work.
  • Support Director of IT and Director of Facilities in ongoing IT and facilities improvements, and ensure integration of their work streams into Operations Team development and collaboration structures.
  • Oversee and/or directly negotiate critical contracts to secure services and resources for schools, in areas such as food service, supply sourcing, and transportation.

  • Willingness to be a team player
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 6 or more years relevant work experience in operations and management
  • Extensive project management experience 
  • Experience in managing others, building teams, and leading cross-functional teams
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff
  • Demonstrated experience with vendor management 
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies
  • Understanding of databases and reporting solutions 
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets

Who are we?

Coney Island Prep is a college preparatory public charter school in Brooklyn, New York. Merging growth, performance, and commitment, the Coney Island Prep community takes its responsibility to prepare scholars for the college and career of their choice very seriously, but not ourselves. We balance our sense of ownership and responsibility with humility and levity and support each other every step of the way. Coney Island Prep currently serves over 1,000 scholars across its four schools, including:


  • 290 scholars in kindergarten – second grade at the lower elementary school
  • 290 scholars in third – fifth grade at the upper elementary school
  • 320 scholars in sixth – eighth grades at the middle school
  • 350 scholars in ninth-twelfth grade at the high school

In addition to sharing our blueprint in approaching virtual and distance learning, we have allocated resources for familial support, distributed hundreds of devices to sustain techquity amongst scholars, and provided over 100,000 meals throughout the South Brooklyn neighborhood to date. 

As we have navigated our return to school and broader COVID-19 recovery efforts, it is clearer than ever before that having all staff members fully vaccinated is an exceedingly important aspect of protecting the health and safety of our school community. We know that educators city-wide will continue to lead the movement for safe and healthy school communities, and we are excited to be a part of that! To adhere to New York City’s mandate, all Coney Island Prep staff members will be required to be fully vaccinated.
