Join our community of intercultural advisors – a dynamic team dedicated to empowering people to become globally engaged citizens and delivering meaningful intercultural experiences that provide the knowledge and skills needed to help create a more just and peaceful world. Our workplace is in the heart of the Financial District with breathtaking views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Pier at the Hudson River.

The School Partnership Coordinator is broadly responsible for establishing and maintaining informational data reflective of US schools, school districts and / or county policies regarding placement requirements for J1 exchange students. This includes proactive and consistent communication with schools about AFS Programs throughout the year.

Each School Partnership Coordinator is responsible for working with Regional Field Staff and local AFS volunteers to ensure 100% of hosted participants have a signed Placement Acceptance Form (PAF) before arriving to the US or before a participant move is completed and that all school-related aspects of a student placement are compliant with AFS, CSIET (Council on Standards for International Educational Travel), and US Department of State standards, guidelines, and regulations.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, ability to maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships with diverse groups of staff, school personnel, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communications, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated success and ability to manage conflict in a positive and timely manner. Ability to resolve complaints in a quick, professional manner
  • Self-‐motivation, strong organizational skills; able to multitask
  • Willingness and ability to work from home, and potentially travel to volunteer or staff conferences, trainings, or meetings, 1-3 times per year.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to participants, staff, and volunteers.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Teams, as well as comfort working with an online database.
  • Ability to work independently in a home-based work environment, with significant geographic distance from both volunteer and staff colleagues and from schools with which they would be working.

WORK EXPECTATIONS:

  • The average work week is 35 hours. AFS USA work hours are generally from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, however given the nature of this position and necessity to work closely with volunteers, travel at times and attend volunteer /staff meetings as requested, evening and weekend work will be required as well as some domestic travel (likely less than 10% of the time.) Because this is a home-based position, applicants should have an appropriate workspace.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS in Education, International Studies or a related field preferred
  • Previous experience working in an educational setting or working with an educational organization.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the trends, issues, and challenges faced by US high schools.

NON-DISCRIMINATION:

AFS-USA is committed to a work environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. AFS-USA prohibits all forms of unlawful discrimination, harassment and retaliation, including behavior which targets an individual or group based on perceived or actual characteristics, such as but not limited to: race, color, religion, creed, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth and related medical conditions), national origin, age, disability, military service, veteran status, marital status, partnership status, sexual orientation, familial status, gender identity, gender expression, transgender status, genetic predisposition or carrier status, alienage, citizenship status, caregiver status, status as a victim of domestic violence, sex offense or stalking, unemployment status, status as a certified medical marijuana patient or any other legally protected classification.
