JOB DESCRIPTION

The University Y is seeking a mission-driven professional to provide program operations leadership and with responsibility in connecting with immigrant communities. Building upon a strong and successful foundation, the Program Coordinator will work with the Director of the New American Welcome Center, collaborating organizations, volunteer leaders and student programs in designing and delivering quality programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Awareness of social justice, faith, international and environmental issues.
  • Bilingual ability required including excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to conduct presentations and facilitate groups.
  • Bicultural agility strongly preferred including understanding of immigrant experience and obstacles due to language barriers, legal status, poverty, and racial inequity.
  • Highly self-motivated with demonstrated success in program development, project management, and coordinating volunteers.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) competencies needed, including the ability to speak in public, interact with and motivate volunteers, community leaders and staff, and write content for program materials.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed, accurate records
  • An ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment and engage equally in administrative and outreach duties.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Build and maintain trusting relationships with underserved communities by providing frequent face-to-face opportunities to meet where community members live, work, and spend time.
  2. Build and maintain trusting relationships with community organizations, leaders, and partners who are immersed and involved in the Champaign County immigrant community.
  3. Identify barriers and ways to overcome access to community resources and civic engagement opportunities for the immigrant community.
  4. Actively participate in staff meetings, development opportunities, community activities, and organization events.
  5. Work with staff in creating strategic direction to meet community needs and desires, and to shape and carry out specific outreach programs, train and develop students and volunteers, organize the preparation and use of materials, and evaluate immigrant outreach and engagement programs.
  6. Evaluate and assess program activities making adjustments and modifications as needed.

STRATEGIC IMPACT

The Program Coordinator reports to and works closely with the Director of the New American Welcome Center and the Board of Governors to ensure effective strategies are in place to develop the resources necessary to support the programs that fulfill our mission.
