The NYU Furman Center invites applications for a one-year post-graduate policy or legal fellowship. The NYU Furman Center, jointly housed at NYU’s School of Law and its Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, is a leading academic research center devoted to the public policy aspects of land use, real estate development, and housing. The fellow will work closely with our interdisciplinary team of lawyers, economists, and urban planners on policy projects that address important and timely urban policy issues. In recent years, policy fellows and legal fellows have worked on projects addressing the legal impediments to the development of micro and accessory dwelling units in New York and other cities; an empirical and legal analysis of the use of transferable development rights in New York City; the economics and legal issues surrounding mandatory inclusionary zoning; and a number of projects addressing fair housing requirements. Fellows are invited to participate in faculty workshops, colloquia, and other scholarly forums at the NYU School of Law.
Primary Responsibilities: Conduct research, analysis, and writing for NYU Furman Center research projects. Serve as project manager for select projects. Assist in translating academic research--including the Center’s legal, data, and quantitative analysis – into materials accessible for non-academic audiences. Help connect NYU Furman Center research to current policy debates and distribute work to key stakeholders. As needed, assist with the planning and execution of the Center’s events, including policy breakfasts, webinar briefings, symposia, and roundtables.
Qualifications: A master’s degree in Public Policy/Public Administration/Urban Planning, J.D., an advanced degree in an equivalent field, or a B.A. in a relevant field plus at least 5 years of relevant work experience. The candidate must demonstrate strong analytic thinking, comfort working with data and policy analysis, and be effective at oral and written communication of quantitative findings and complex concepts. The candidate must be comfortable working on a team, demonstrate excellent writing/editing/proofreading capabilities, and have strong organizational and project-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience analyzing data using statistical analysis software (e.g., R, Stata, SAS). These skills are not required, but if you have them please note that in your cover letter.
This one-year fellowship begins as soon as possible during fall 2018.
