Job Description and Duties:


JVS SoCal serves a diverse population of clients that include Veterans, persons with disabilities, and programs to uplift and empower women. In addition to our Veterans First program, we operate L.A. County’s Veterans AJCC WorkSource Center at Bob Hope Patriotic Hall, serving hundreds of Veterans each year. Our nationally certified Disability and Assessment team provides clients with disabilities state-of-the-art assistive technology to determine the skills they can take to the workplace. And our Women’s Empowerment Initiative provides mentoring and job training to empower women to take control of their lives and achieve dignity and economic independence through sustainable employment. These and other programs offer our corporate partners with a direct and impactful connection with our clients and the communities we serve.

JVS SoCal continues to be an innovative and unique organization that has established award winning, nationally respected, industry specific career training programs in the Financial, Healthcare and Apartment Maintenance sectors. These 6-8 week intensive job training programs are free to our clients through the generous philanthropic support of our corporate partners and many others. We not only train those who seek our services, we help place these individuals into careers with a 97% hire rate and an 87% retention rate


As the Director of Corporate Development and Engagement, you will have a direct role in empowering all our clients to thereby positively impacting and transforming lives, families and communities. By managing corporate sponsorships and developing new stewardship programs, you will strengthen the institution’s relationships with donors and further their commitment to the JVS SoCal mission. You will be a change-agent, turning our client’s hopelessness into opportunity.


Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Philanthropy, you will be responsible for new and increased funding from corporate donors and/or their Foundations and growing and enriching program and event support across the agency. The Director of Corporate Development and Engagement is expected to raise 2x to 3x their annual salary within 18-24 months from date of hire and develop a list of at least 75 newly identified, mission-aligned prospects.


You will be part of a dynamic and collaborative fundraising team, cultivating increased levels of impact, giving and engagement. The Director of Corporate Development and Engagement is responsible for researching, identifying, engaging, soliciting and stewarding corporations and foundations that align with JVS SoCal’s mission, vision, values and the agency’s Strategic Plan and goals.


You will identify, confirm, communicate and maintain information on all funding programs and priorities for donor support. Working with senior management and staff, you will ensure the opportunities always meet the agency’s and our clients’ changing needs and priorities.



·               Drive new and augment current corporate philanthropy to meet specific individual goals and outcomes as outlined above as well as meeting an overall Philanthropy team goal

·               Develop and manage a portfolio of prospects utilizing the gift cycle: Qualification, Prospecting, Cultivation, Solicitation and Stewardship

·               Create sustainable action plans for annual, corporate major gift programs

·               Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward new and current donors for immediate and long term giving

·               Create and implement successful strategic engagement plans to provide innovative market-driven and value-added solutions to increase revenue and profitability

·               Plan, direct, and coordinate budget for new business development

·               Work with staff to gather information on key programs ensuring that they meet unique or specific donor interests,


·               maintaining/updating information on an ongoing basis

·               Develop recognition program, segmenting different levels of giving 

·               Utilize a Moves Management system for accountability

·               Communicate activities and donor contact information regularly and frequently with all members of the Philanthropy team through timely recording of information in Raisers Edge (RE), and otherwise assigned methods

·               Utilize RE to manage all areas of donor moves management and fundraising 

·               Provide reports on prospect and donor management and giving results on a regular basis, defined by leadership

·               Remain current on all industry trends, tools and techniques 

·               Participate, on request, in major donor events 

·               Support Development team efforts as assigned

·               Work in collaboration with program leaders to develop unique selling propositions (USP) that leverage program impact and connect Corporate Sponsors with JVS SoCal programs that support their hiring and philanthropic goals and objectives

·               Work in collaboration with Marketing & Communications team to enhance presentations and support development campaigns

·               Increase the number of corporate partners with the aim of incrementally growing corporate and corporate foundation giving as well as employment partnership for JVS clients


You will play a major role in Corporate donor research, Moves Management, donor appreciation and engagement, database management and all necessary actions to achieve annual revenue targets. In addition, you will provide fundraising assistance to support JVS SoCal’s major events and work closely with the SVP of Philanthropy, Chief Strategy Officer, agency leadership, the Grants Department and all staff to meet the challenges of building and strengthening the agency’s funding base in support of JVS SoCal’s programs.

Personal and Professional Qualifications: 

·               5-7 years of experience successfully securing, soliciting, managing and building non-profit donor relationships with a specificity in the Los Angeles business and corporate community

·               Proven track record developing and managing annual, corporate and major giving programs

·               Experience working with Raiser’s Edge or another equivalent database system

·               Self-starter with ability to work effectively individually and as strong team player

·               Proactive and goal oriented with strong decision-making skills

·               Superior verbal and written communication skills 

·               Highly organized and detail oriented with ability to multi-task 

·               Professional and mature presentation with high quality customer services skills

·               Ability to listen effectively

·               Intellectual and social curiosity

·               Active computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office products and Raiser’s Edge

·               Experience preparing long and short-term development plans and strategies

·               Experience soliciting sponsorships for special events and industry specific program support including assistance in preparing fundraising materials and proposals


Qualifications and Position Requirements:

·               Demonstrated success in development and fundraising, including committee development, annual development planning, donor cultivation, foundation and corporate relations.

·               Strong understanding of marketing and business development principles and experience planning and implementing strategies to assist in building the constituency base and awareness.

·               Excellent planning, management, writing, communications, facilitation and presentation skills.

·               MA/BA degree or equivalent experience.

·               Excellent teamwork and team building skills and experience.

·               Well-organized, energetic, creative and highly motivated professional with the ability to work with a diverse group of people including Board members, staff and volunteers.

A familiarity with or demonstrated ability to become quickly and adeptly knowledgeable about the Los Angeles and Southern California corporate communities.·
