As Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) celebrates its 35th Anniversary, we are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and passionate Job Developer who can help ensure that OBT continues to meet its annual and contractual goals for placing New York City youth and adults in quality positions, where they will gain valuable experience and have the opportunity for advancement.

Reporting to the Chief of Employer Partnerships and Workforce Innovations, the Job Developer will interact and collaborate with a variety of employers and community partners, as well as coordinate with various internal staff to ensure that program participants are matched appropriately to career opportunities and placement goals are being met in compliance with contractual obligations.

Specific Duties:

  • In collaboration with the program teams, conduct comprehensive assessments of participants designed to evaluate work history, education, job skills, personal qualifications, support service needs and vocational interests;
  • Support in the development of individual employability plans designed to assist each participant in determining appropriate steps toward meeting employment, training and educational goals;
  • Counsel participants on viable employment and other vocational options and provide current labor market information;
  • Follow-up with participants on an ongoing basis and evaluate participant progress based upon each individual’s employability plan;
  • Continuously seek to develop a diverse and relevant job bank;
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers to build feedback loops and assure continued placement of future participants;
  • Conduct job readiness workshops designed to address employability issues as necessary;
  • Make appropriate and timely internship and job placement referrals of participants to potential employers;
  • Obtain necessary documentation and track data relevant to job placements;
  • Assist with community outreach and program promotional activities;
  • Work in collaboration with the employment team to ensure organizational placements goals are met across all programs;
  • Support documentation of participant program experience, including any relevant work experience (both automated and paper);
  • Support documentation of sample assignments/projects/tests for each enrolled trainee;
  • Assist with the generation of program reports and proposals for funding as needed;
  • Work across sites/programs as needed

Background and Qualifications:

  • Three years relevant work experience required
  • Established network/relationships with employers across NYC
  • Adept at networking and cultivating strong relationships
  • Able to balance working independently and collaborate across teams and functions
  • Data-driven professional with proven track record of setting and exceeding targets
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills, ability to articulate OBT’s mission and vision to prospective partners
  • Passionate about the communities we serve
  • Strong organizational skills and detail orientation
  • Proficiency in computer systems necessary
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings as necessary
  • Previous workforce development or social services experience
  • Experience working with hard-to-serve populations is strongly preferred
