Jewish Family Service is seeking a Legal Assistant for Project DVORA (Domestic Violence Outreach Response and Advocacy). This part-time (18.75 hours per week) position will support the Project DVORA staff attorney in building out a new legal service within an established domestic violence advocacy program to provide civil law consultation and representation to survivors of domestic violence. The vision of Project DVORA is to create conditions in the greater community to support loving, safe, and respectful relationships, and build the capacity in the community to respond to domestic abuse. 


We are looking for a compassionate, caring person to fill this vital role and continue to carry out the vision of Project DVORA.


Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and edit correspondence, legal pleadings, and other documents independently and consistent with attorney instructions.
  • Maintain legal files and records in the case management system.
  • Assist in filing pleadings (e-file and in person), recording documents, and arranging service of process.
  • Assist in client communication, fact development, and computer-assisted legal research.
  • Coordinate client and attorney scheduling, communicate regularly with DVORA advocates, clients, and attorney.
  • Perform investigative work (research facts, gather discovery, access data bases, etc.) as requested.
  • Track case information and client statistics and assist attorney in developing reports.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with clients and staff.
  • Clerical, administrative, and other tasks as assigned.


Qualifications include:

  • Minimum of 3 years of family law legal assistant experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office products including Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of King County e-filing, e-working copies and e-service processes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Use and operate office machines such as copiers, scanners, fax machines, etc. effectively.
  • Direct professional experience in domestic violence and family law highly preferred.
  • Commitment to social justice.
