Under the direction and guidance of the Director, Homelessness Initiatives and in partnership with the Director, Strategic Investments, the Program Officer will be responsible for driving forward strategic funding as part of United Way’s Home For Good initiative to end homelessness in L.A. County. Home For Good is the largest non-governmental agent working on the issue of homelessness in LA County, a driving force and backbone in creating systematic change that brings more people inside again.
The Program Officer will have the opportunity to be at the center of an inspiring and historic effort to address homelessness together with a dynamic, innovative team of implementers. The work environment is fast-paced and energized, focused on continuous learning and improvement both internally and out in the field.
As part of a management team of Home For Good, the Program Officer will support coalition building, collaborative planning, and execution of strategic funding that pilot innovations, build sector capacity, and advance racial justice in partnership with public and private funders. Program Officer will manage the Home For Good Funders Collaborative, LA’s leading resource table on housing and homelessness, and oversee the strategic investment of United Way’s additional housing and homelessness resources.

Home For Good Funders Collaborative
· Direct a body of 30+ leading public and private funders in building and investing in catalytic solutions to ending homelessness in Los Angeles County.
· Lead the growth and enhancement of this collective in size, scope, and vision as the pre-imminent public/private partnership for resourcing homelessness initiatives.
· Use discretion and strategic thought to continue to evolve the structure and strategies of the Funders Collaborative to broaden and deepen the engagement of philanthropic members and the impact of its investments.
· Manage collaborative investment design processes composed of internal staff and external partners to construct streamlined and impactful funding opportunities.
· Work in partnership with Homelessness Initiatives leadership and foundation partners to define racial equity efforts and investments.
· Oversee fund development (grantwriting and reporting) and fund management (financials, payment schedule, cabinet/board approvals) for Home For Good and the Funders Collaborative, in partnership with Director, Strategic Investments.
· Support elements of grant writing for mid-size proposals of $100k and above that benefit the long-term sustainability of the Home For Good team and drives community impact
· Continue to research advancements in the philanthropic field and explore alternative grant processes that increase access and impact of investments.
· Determine and distribute meaningful communication on the work of Home For Good and the Collaborative to members, grantees. Represent on panels and speaking engagements as necessary.
Home For Good Strategic Investments & Operations
· Collaborate with Homelessness Initiatives team to support investment in pilots and other strategic projects funded through foundation giving.
· Support Director, Homelessness Initiatives in management of foundation revenue, in partnership with Finance Business Operations and Strategic Investments, to track revenue and foundation and team expenses.
· Manage growth and coordination of homelessness grants team, and support Director, Homelessness Initiatives in development and implementation of protocols and practices that foster a healthy team culture. Ensure alignment with organizational values.
· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
· Experience: Minimum 5 years relevant work experience in philanthropy, systems change or policy work. Proven ability to develop, manage, and evaluate large scale initiatives
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Business Administration, related disciplines, or equivalent experience required. Master’s or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
· Passion: Demonstrated deep passion for United Way’s mission of addressing poverty in Los Angeles County; subject matter expertise in the areas of homelessness, education and/or economic mobility a plus
· Equity: Understands and values racial equity as an organizational operating principle and is committed to continued learning on issues related to race, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
· Communications: Possess strong interpersonal, written and verbal skills; be adept and confident when speaking to funders and corporate partners

· Technical: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) required. Prior experience with CRM (or other donor database) and grants management software a strong plus. Proficiency with virtual engagement platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams is strongly recommended.

· Collaborative planning, development, and execution of competitive funding opportunities to meet the collaborative and strategic grantmaking goals of the Funders Collaborative and Home For Good.
· Refinement and integration of racial equity value into Funders Collaborative strategies and investments.
