Responsibilities

Reporting to the development director, the development and communications associate will work with the development team on execution of the annual giving, communications, and donor cultivation strategies for the year. As a member of the team, you will partner in the overall departmental responsibility to surpass fiscal year goals, manage external relationships, and deepen donors’ connection to the school. 

  • Oversee segmentation of lists and mailings and support data management.
  • Conduct prospect research on individuals, foundations, and corporations. 
  • Assist in the success of our volunteer program as liaison among students, families, teachers, and volunteers to coordinate schedules, build strong partnerships, and shape positive experiences for our volunteers.
  • Assist in the implementation of our weekly mentoring program.
  • Coordinate volunteer days with our corporate partners and other one-time volunteer opportunities.
  • Support the grant proposals and reporting process, including proofreading content, gathering support documents, and completing mailings.
  • Support general development, communications, and strategy work as needed, including preparation for and implementation of events (once in-person gatherings are feasible).


Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in nonprofit development and a demonstrated interest in the school’s mission.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences both in writing and in person/over the phone.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other donor database and managing mailings is strongly preferred. 

 

Compensation:

Harlem Academy offers associates a challenging and supportive work environment and opportunities for advancement within the organization. Salaries are competitive, and generous benefits include five weeks of paid vacation time (plus major federal holidays) and excellent health benefits. The position currently is remote because of COVID-19, with daily responsibilities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and occasional work outside of regular hours.
