Work should be fulfilling. Inspiring. That is what you’ll find when you join Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP). Our nurses work in more than 60 locations caring for our community’s most vulnerable—and most resilient—citizens. We serve over 12,000 men, women, and children experiencing homelessness each year. Our mission is to ensure that every one of them has access to the highest quality health care.
To fulfill that mission, BHCHP is seeking a talented and compassionate registered nurse to join our team of exceptional care providers. You will find challenging and satisfying work alongside colleagues who share your drive and your compassion. You will provide vital nursing support for respite patients throughout the program. Our nurses assure that timely, clinically appropriate decisions are made and executed across the entire spectrum of care in compliance with established policies and DPH regulations. This may include:
- Direct nursing care of patients on assigned teams
- Administration of medications and treatments to all the patients assigned to care team and observe and report any adverse reactions.
- Active participation in new patients rounds, team rounds, and all other team meetings.
- Responsible for assigning specific tasks, directing Respite Aides, and giving report on patients' needs.
- All our nurses are expected to have:
- Commonwealth of Massachusetts RN license
- 2 years nursing experience preferred
- Experience with underserved population preferred
- Familiarity with Harm Reduction and Trauma Informed Care Principles
- Ability to maintain focus and compassion in a fast paced, fluid environment
About our Benefits:
BHCHP is dedicated to the wellbeing of its employees as well as its patients, so we offer four weeks of vacation per year to new employees, on top of nine observed holidays, two floating holidays and ten sick days. Licensed employees receive continuing education reimbursement. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, BHCHP employees may be eligible for loan repayment programs like the National Health Service Corps, and the Mass League of Community Health Centers, among others.
Since 1985, our mission has remained to provide or assure access to the highest quality health care for all persons experiencing homelessness in the greater Boston area. We believe it has been and continues to be medicine that matters. Dedicated clinical and non-clinical staff share their passion for a vibrant mission and support each other in bringing the mission alive. Their work ensures vulnerable patients are kept alive and get help managing chronic diseases. Our generous donors find a fulfilling way to respond to the feelings of helplessness that come with concern for those on the street. Shelter partners benefit from BHCHP's medical expertise while focusing on their core mission, avoiding wasteful duplication of services. Boston's many hospitals can depend on BHCHP as an alternative to the emergency room as well as a safe discharge location for medically vulnerable patients.
BHCHP's targeted, compassionate management of limited resources yields everyday successes that are a living tribute to the ideals of a just society.
