Job Announcement: College Hub Youth Program Coordinator

In addition to 22 affordable housing properties. Foundation Communities owns and operates two Prosper Centers in Austin, Texas. At each site, community members can access free tax help, health insurance enrollment, financial wellness programs, and our College Hub.

The College Hub, Austin’s first college support center for low-income nontraditional students, provides wraparound support services to help students get to and through college. Services include financial aid assistance, college coaching and planning, and scholarship assistance. The College Hub Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for working with key partners and Foundation Communities staff to support students and promote pathways into and through college or skills training for youth in Central Texas, with a focus on residents of Foundation Communities properties.

Job Responsibilities

The College Hub Youth Program Coordinator will report to the College Hub Manager and will:

  • Provide individualized support to youth and their families as they plan for college or careers
  • Assist with financial aid applications (FAFSA and TASFA)
  • Help navigate college admissions, enrollment, and registration
  • Identify pathways into and through college or skills training
  • Coordinate access to support services to help students overcome barriers
  • Work closely with school principals, teachers, Communities in Schools, and other staff to increase collaboration in the provision of wrap-around support services in neighborhood high schools
  • Staff office hours at partner high schools, including Garza Independence High School
  • Present to area schools on topics such as financial aid, scholarships, and college applications
  • Participate in college, career, and resource fairs
  • Bring College Hub services to residents of Foundation Communities
  • Support development and coordination of Foundation Communities’ Teen Program for middle and high school students
  • Influence Teen Program curriculum, specifically by incorporating activities that increase college and career awareness (including facilitating guest speakers, field trips, and college fairs)
  • Support recruitment efforts for Teen Program and Summer Youth Employment Program
  • Act as a liaison for the Prosper Programs
  • Research best practices and develop a high degree of knowledge in engaging youth in programs that help them access and complete college or training
  • Complete accurate and timely data collection and entry
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; an inclusive student-centered philosophy of providing services and resources
  • Ability to work in a team while also handling individual day-to-day responsibilities and projects independently
  • Knowledge of the college application and financial aid process
  • Ability to read, write, and speak a second language preferred

Position Information:

Position is full time with health and retirement benefits after required employment periods are met. Foundation Communities provides an excellent benefits package including employer paid health benefits, 401(k) investment opportunity, Employee Assistance Program, paid vacation, holiday, and sick time. We also provide ongoing professional development opportunities so that each team member has what they need to excel and grow. The position pays $22 per hour and will split time between our South Prosper Center at 2900 S IH 35 Frontage Road, Sierra Vista Apartments at 4320 S Congress Ave, and local partner and school sites. Evening and occasional weekend hours should be anticipated. This is an in-person position (we are following all CDC and Austin Public Health guidelines) with the option to occasionally work some hours remotely.
