Position: Mobile Market Assistant


About Share: Share Food Program is on the front lines in the regional fight against hunger, and last year brought 27 million pounds of nourishing food to 700,000 low-income citizens, through a network of 500 neighborhood food cupboards in Philadelphia, Bucks and Montgomery Counties. Share’s programs expand access to healthy, affordable food in the region.


Scope of Work: Partnering with SNAP-Ed providers and community organizations to coordinate and staff a mobile produce stand through which individuals and families of all backgrounds have access to affordable, fresh produce.


Basic Function: Assist with the sale of food at mobile produce stands for school sites, senior centers, and community health centers. The Mobile Market Assistant reports to the Mobile Market Coordinator and the Food Access Manager.  


  • Assisting with all aspects of produce stands at partner sites:
  • Set-up, clean-up, customer service, data tracking as needed, and accurate collection of payments.
  • Loading and unloading produce vans, organizing and transporting produce to and from stands
  • Creating a clean, organized, and pleasing display of various produce items and associated prices
  • Preparing outreach documents (flyers, signage, various marketing/promotional materials) as necessary
  • Assisting with food procurement and program development as needed.
  • Accurate and responsible management of cash register, including counting back change and settling the register at the end of a shift
  • Creating a warm and engaging experience at sites by building connections with participants – learning community preferences and patterns, and collaborating with the Mobile Market Coordinator to update produce inventory to reflect community desires.
  • Performing other tasks within and outside of the warehouse as assigned and directed.


Qualifications: 


  • High School diploma.
  • Excellent customer service ability.
  • Friendly, proactive, self-motivated, superb interpersonal skills (both written and verbal)


Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Detail-oriented with ability to accurately record data, and use basic math skills quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Produce stand staff will be oriented to the mission and activities of Share Food Program, and will be able to speak about its initiatives to visitors and customers.
  • Have a working knowledge of produce, including safe handling, preparation, and storage.
  • Ability to work in a mostly unstructured environment while effectively interacting  and communicating with all people and staff internally and externally, including, but not limited to Share and SNAP-Ed staff, participants/customers, children, volunteers, and funders.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and Saturdays.
  • Strong collaboration and organizational skills.
  • Candidates with Spanish proficiency/fluency preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with Philadelphia neighborhoods. 


Certifications and Licenses:


  • Must have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and proof of insurance.
  • Have completed or have the ability to complete necessary clearances: PA Criminal Background, Child Abuse Background Check, and FBI Fingerprinting.


Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and exert a major force to lift, carry, push, and move objects.
  • Must be able to drive a van or pickup truck and other similar vehicles. CDL not required.
  • Ability to work under most weather conditions and to spend several hours per day driving.

This position is paid, salaried, and includes medical benefits.
