Built in 1902, UHeights is a non-profit, 501c-3 bustling community center formed in 1990 located in the nationally historic University Heights School in the U District of Seattle, Washington.  UHeights promotes life-long learning, creativity, culture, and community activism. Annually, UHeights welcomes over 250,000 visits through its doors, is the long-term home to 10 community organizations and welcomes 160+ groups that host arts, cultural and educational programming, and programs for people who are unhoused.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Outreach & Events Coordinator is an integral team member and responsible for managing communications related to programming, including Arts & Culture, Human Services and other community-related programs, including social media and other collateral. The events function of the position will be focused mostly on The Auditorium activities, and other community events throughout the year.

 

Reports to: Program Manager

 

SUMMARY OF REQUIRED DUTIES:

The general areas of responsibility are: 

Marketing/Community Outreach—15-20 hours/week

●      Manage all communications for organization, including website, e-newsletter, social media, and printed collateral. Ensure that all collateral is within brand guidelines. Collaborate with Development Coordinator on fundraising materials.

●      Develop targeted and segmented outreach plan.

●      Social Media: develop a social media outreach plan that is creative, engaging and rooted in best practices for all social media platforms. Manage the Content Calendar.

●      Represent UHeights at meetings and events in the community, as needed.

●      Write press releases.

●      Manage all advertisements.

Events/Classes and Auditorium Management—20-25 hours week

·      Manage all functions of our performance space, The Auditorium and Zoom events during the pandemic.

-- UHeights Theatre Alliance: host monthly meetings/happy hours; support performances with marketing, day-of event assistance, including sound and lighting, audience seating, set-up/tear-down, cleaning; photography.

   --Teachers Lounge: manage bar and concessions, including maintaining inventory counts, updating promotion signage at lounge and throughout the building; manage other bartenders and fill in when they are not available or call in sick; have or be able to obtain MAST (Bartending) certification and adhere to liquor license laws, ensuring all bartenders are trained and have MAST certification; do not serve visibly intoxicated attendees or underage visitors; use Square payment system, operate tablet at counter to log all sales

   --UHeights Artist Collective--maintain regular meetings with artists & coordinate and host events

--Summer Park-Pop ups--coordinate three (July, Aug and Sept) monthly events in partnership with Farmers Market, local musicians, and UHeights Artist Collective. Work with and organize volunteers for set up and break down of sound equipment, tables, canopies outdoors on the day-of the events.

--Outdoor Cinema --coordinate with Scarecrow Video and Phinney Neighborhood Association to help organize Outdoor Cinema events in summer.

--Online Events--setup and host online events while we stay closed for in-person events. Manage the online events calendar.

--Scorecard--fill out the Scorecard with event data and other pieces of info (social media engagement, volunteer info etc.) that we track regularly.

-Other--do cost-benefit analysis to ensure the financial sustainability of Arts & Culture programs, including the Auditorium. Research going rates of teacher/performer salaries.

Volunteers--manage Arts & Culture Volunteers --create a system for recruitment, retention and recognition of volunteers; work with and manage marketing UW Eco interns

Other duties, as assigned.


KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

The person in this position should possess a minimum of: 

·      Passion for UHeights mission and ability to communicate that passion to the community

·      Exceptional relationship and trust-building skills, and ability to relate well to donors and coworkers

·      Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects within a dynamic work environment

·      Ability to collaborate and work within a team

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·      2+ years professional, school or volunteer experience

·      Computer proficient (Word, Excel, Outlook, Salesforce and Mail Chimp)

·      Personal independence, drive, and self-initiative

This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring weekend and evening work to manage events.

COMPENSATION: Starts $20-22/hour (DOE); health/dental benefits, matching retirement plan, paid sick/vacations and holidays.
