The Folger Shakespeare Library, located in Washington, D.C., is seeking a Development Associate for Major Gifts to join a dynamic fundraising team. Working closely with the Chief Advancement Officer, the Assistant Director of Development for Operations, and Senior Development Officers, the Development Associate for Major Gifts supports the fundraising and stewardship efforts of the Folger Shakespeare Library, including; the capital campaign, planned giving, the annual gala, and other major gift programs. Duties include but are not limited to: entering and updating donor and prospect information into the database; helping to prepare profiles and reports; screening new donors for wealth capacity; tracking attendance for cultivation events; preparing acknowledgments and pledge reminders; preparing reports; and assisting with the maintenance of web pages for the gala and planned giving programs. Regular hours for this position are 8:45am to 4:45pm with occasional evenings and weekend hours for events. This is a full time position with excellent benefits. 


Applicants for this position are required to have a B.A. and at least one year of experience in development or fundraising, preferably in a cultural institution. Experience with databases, data entry, and donor/prospect research is required. Necessary skills include: excellent business writing, data entry, organization, time management, and interpersonal communication, as well as superb attention to accuracy and detail. Successful candidates must be comfortable communicating with donors at events, on the phone, and/or via letters and email. Must be able to handle confidential constituent information with discretion. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Knowledge of donor databases is needed, with a preference for experience with Tessitura, WealthEngine, and Lexis-Nexis. Working knowledge of email messaging systems such as WordFly and basic HTML is desirable. The successful candidate will be able to successfully manage multiple, and sometimes conflicting, priorities with ease, work well as an independent contributor to team projects, and thrive in a fast paced and deadline driven environment.
