 CENTER FOR FAMILY LIFE, a nationally-recognized social service program in Sunset Park Brooklyn, is seeking college students to serve as AmeriCorps Workers to support youth engagement programs and promote student leadership development. Working collaboratively with school personnel and program staff, AmeriCorps members will assist in the facilitation of in-school advisory classes in addition to a diverse range of after school activities. Members will gain experience in: working with high-school aged youth, interdisciplinary-work within an educational setting, and the social work group model. Our ideal candidate has knowledge and a demonstrated interest in working with youth and will utilize a strengths-based approach to enrich the lives of youth, families and community.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

●    Partner with high school teachers to co-facilitate advisory classes, emphasizing college readiness, social skills, and leadership development

●    Supervise students in a variety of activities including art-based recreation, after school clubs, and homework assistance

●    Provide individual mentoring to a caseload of high school students

●    Assist in the design and implementation of special events for high school students, families, and community

●    Perform office duties as necessary



●    Some college experience required

●    Experience working with youth on leadership development, service learning, and/or college exploration

●    Must enjoy working with high school students, working in groups, collaborating with others, and being part of a community

●    Bilingual in English-Spanish or English-Chinese, a plus

●    NY State Drivers’ License, a plus

●    In addition, employees need to possess the following characteristics:

o     Detail-oriented, flexible, and a team player

o     Must have a sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and participants

o     Must possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change; forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families

o     Must have the ability to set limits and to intervene appropriately; maintains helping role of practitioner at all times

o     675 hour term - $2,321.90 stipend
