Camp for All Kids seeks a collaborative, creative and Chicago-based leader, with an established record in nonprofit management, strategic and financial planning, and fund development to serve as the organization’s Executive Director.

About Camp for All Kids: Camp for All Kids provides camperships that enable Black and Brown youth from historically under-resourced communities to experience overnight summer camp, providing a safe environment that fosters fellowship and social-emotional development. Position Overview: The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, Camp for All Kids staff, partner camps and schools, and other key stakeholders to articulate and implement a strategic vision that ensures Camp for All Kids’ continued success and growth. Success will require coordinated planning expertise that identifies and achieves institutional priorities across organizational leadership, strategic communications, fundraising, constituent and partner relations, and financial planning and management. 

As a strategic, organizational leader, the Executive Director will manage multiple half-time staff positions, including a Development Director, a Campership and Partnership Manager, and a Manager of our Four Star Fellowship program. They will manage the work of each staff member to ensure the development of program-level strategies and their successful execution, all in support of Camp for All Kids’ overarching long-term strategic priorities. The Executive Director will serve as a collaborative leader, leveraging the expertise that each employee brings to their role while also cultivating the cross-functional leadership skills so important to the success and growth of small non-profit organizations. 

As chief spokesperson, advocate, and partnership builder, the Executive Director will grow Camp for All Kids’ presence across our partner-camp communities regionally (Chicago, St. Louis, and Cleveland) and nationally, among potential institutional funders, with the families of campership recipients as appropriate, and in the media. They will build and sustain strong relationships with major donors, foundations, and other constituencies that have the potential to support Camp for All Kids’ mission and, over time, significantly grow the contributed revenue totals received from these lead-donor constituents.

Key Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff, partner camps and schools, and other key stakeholders, craft a bold vision and strategy for enhancing Camp for All Kids’ presence in target communities and building and diversifying fundraising capacities and results. 

  • Serve as key spokesperson and advocate for Camp for All Kids to a broad constituency of local, regional, and national constituents and potential partners. 
  • Develop and execute a strategic communications plan designed to enhance public awareness of Camp for All Kids and its mission and encourage philanthropic support. 
  • Manage and expand portfolio of high-net-worth donors and donor prospects, with primary responsibility for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding relationships that result in increased major gift commitments in support of Camp for All Kids. 
  • Work closely with the Directors of our six partner camps and the liaisons at our six partner schools to ensure year-over-year growth in campership opportunities and placements consistent with the totals that current and projected fundraising results will sustain 
  • Expand partner school relationships, through additions of new schools. to grow pipeline of campership recipients 
  • Design and execute a set of strategies to enhance annual fundraising results, building annual unrestricted gift totals, new major gift pipelines and receipts, and targeted foundation grants
  • Enhance organizational capacity to utilize the donor database as a strategic tool to identify and cultivate new and increased gift commitments
  • Support the planning and execution of annual fundraising events, including Cocktails around the Campfire and other more targeted strategies. 
  • Manage organizational finances and financial projections with Board oversight. Prepare budgets and track expenses. Oversee timely and accurate financial statements, funder reports, and cash flow projections. 
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive relations with Board of Directors, partner-camp Directors, partner schools, the families of campership recipients, and Camp for All Kids volunteers. 
  • Work with the Board of Directors to achieve good governance practices, grow financial resources, and recruit and onboard new members.

Experience, Skills, and Qualities: The ideal candidate will be an experienced non-profit leader with demonstrable experience in strategic planning, fundraising, partner and constituent relations, and financial management and oversight. They will also demonstrate a robust and active commitment to diversity and inclusive equity in their personal and/or professional life, consistent with Camp for All Kids’ mission.

In addition, candidates will be evaluated on these priority areas as identified by Camp for All Kids’ Board and staff: 

  • Experience in and/or familiarity with the summer camp experience 
  • A Bachelor’s degree 
  • A minimum of five (5) years of senior administrative or executive level leadership experience in a non-profit or mission-driven for-profit organization
  • Experience leading annual and major gift campaigns with demonstrated history of enhancing donor totals and gift receipts in support of strategic priorities
  • Experience articulating and executing a successful communications strategy in support of institutional priorities
  • Demonstrated skills in nonprofit administration of budgets, finances, and constituent/public relations
  • Successful track record of building and managing a high-performing team. Driven and outgoing self-starter who can work with minimal oversight and achieve institutional goals on a consistent basis
  • Ability to travel to partner schools and partner camps. The successful candidate will have a valid driver’s license
