Position Title:

Permanent Supportive Housing Advocate

Reports to: Project Coordinator

Category: Hourly

Location: 1444 Irving Street NW


Hours: On Call; must be willing and able to cover:


M-F 8am-4pm; 4pm to 12am; 12am–8am


Weekend Shifts:

Saturday and Sunday 8am-4pm; 4pm-12am; 12am-8am


This is an on call position to fill in during daytime, evening, and overnight Mon-Sun. Shifts are assigned as needed, schedule flexibility is needed.


Responsibilities:

-Warmly greet and direct residents and building guests at the front desk of this Permanent Supportive Housing program for 41 single men.

-Monitor security cameras in the building and work to keep residents, staff, and the building safe by appropriately responding to any security issues that may arise.

-Become familiar with the Housing First Model, HSRA, HIPPA to inform job duties and program philosophy.

-Develop rapport with each resident through routine contact and communication

-Ensure the safety of residents by providing routine safety checks.

-Assist with medication management for residents including witnessing residents take meds and assisting residents in keeping track of refills

-Monitor resident’s medical and psychiatric needs

-Provide meaningful feedback to PSH team and Project Coordinator on both resident and program outcomes including areas for improvement.

-Brainstorm. Plan, and implement activities and groups with residents.

-Assist with crisis intervention when necessary.

-Complete incident reporting when necessary and communicating serious

incidents, allegations, security breaches, or sensitive situations to program coordinator or Assistant Division Director immediately

-Complete documentation of consumer contact when required.

-Assist consumers in securing adequate resources.

-Demonstrate empathy and flexibility in responding to consumers' needs and

requests.

-Collaborate with external agencies providing services to consumers.

-Attend and participate in supervision meetings,

staff meetings, agency trainings and professional trainings and conferences as needed or required.

-Follow all agency policies and procedures

-Perform all other duties as assigned


Qualifications and Skills:

-Individuals with life experience with homelessness who meet other qualifications are encouraged to apply. This experience could be substituted for education or work experience.

-HS Diploma/GED and 5 years working experience

-AA or at least 2 years of college level education and 3 years of working experience or 2 years in direct social service experience

-Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 2 years working experience or 1 year direct social service experience

-Human services degree preferred but other degrees considered with demonstrated interest in working with vulnerable populations.

-Must take ownership and be accountable for job responsibilities

-Capacity to maintain strict confidentiality

-Bilingual in Spanish is a plus

-Experience working with individuals with mental health concerns or addiction preferred.

-Strong written and verbal skills.

-Ability and willingness to work in a diverse and challenging environment.

-Ability and willingness to work as a team player.

-Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet; ability to learn database program

-Ability to maintain healthy and professional boundaries

-Must be able to arrive to work and scheduled meetings on time.

-Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
